This is most definitely not the follow-up to 'Guess Who?' and will probably be quite a darkly comic take on Scooby-Doo.

Must say I was not expecting that. I'll definitely watch it and give it a chance!

I'm disappointed, to be honest. I suppose it was bound to happen though. It's not like I'll be forced to watch it.

Interesting, will have to wait to see for more information before I pass judgement. Are these the same folks that have done the recent Harley Quinn cartoons?

I presume they'll make Velma of Indian origin, so that with the character's queer identity are interesting concepts to explore.

I love Mindy and her latest Netflix produced show was so funny and wholesome. Good to hear that. At least going off of the people commenting on my blog, it seems like people's main concern is that this is going to be super raunchy and Family Guy-esque, which would be a concern for me as well since I wouldn't want Scooby to be like that. Glad to hear her most recent show is pretty wholesome though.

I understand people's concerns of it being too raunchy and have in-you-face sort of vulgar comedy, but if we consider Mindy and the other people's production credits which are that Netflix show "never have I ever" (which was a coming of age wholesome comedy story and I don't think I can even recall swearing in it at all), The Office (which is famous for its wit rather than its swearing + its an Emmy winning show) and The Mindy Project (never watched it but also described as a "charming romantic comedy") we really shouldn't compare it to Family Guy or Harley Quinn. Family Guy is satire comedy which is a genre of its own and Harley Quinn is violent, gory comedy so the swearing comes natural in that show since it's relieve to let out a big F**c after you kill someone if you know what I mean. Please please please don't judge it too soon. I believe in Mindy and let's not forget Sam Register is also producing and he's a veteran with Scooby media. Why would you think they would have him there too? It's clear they want the show to be fresh but stay faithful to the Scooby canon to an extent. About Velma being Indian, I really wouldn't be so sure about it just yet, especially since it's easy for actors to just voice any kind of character. However, with the latest wokeness in the voice acting community it could be a possibility. Regardless, I would love their decision either way. The ethnical background of a character does not change its essence in any way.

I will give it a chance. I would have personally been a fan of a more adult-oriented Scooby mystery cartoon (not Family Guy-esque, just darker and maybe a few jokes) moreso than a Velma (or any of them tbh) origin story. Maybe this will make Velma more likable than she has been in recent Scooby

Like Riverdale, but actually well written and shows respect towards the original Scooby Doo. Definitely wouldn't be for every Scooby fan, but if they keep it as a single entity that doesn't impact anything else Scooby, then I would see it as no harm done

To begin with Velma was 'generic white American' With Frankencreepy we have her of Germanic stock, possibly connected to nobility. With SD:MI there were Jewish vibes. So how they'll play her is anyone's guess, but you can be sure however they do it, someone's gonna get mad on the internet about it.
As for the 'adult' part it'll be that it's written assuming that children won't be watching. Simply the tone and how the story is told can make something adult. We'll get a better idea when the first trailer airs.
What's more interesting is why now? Why Velma? What does her POV bring to the storytelling table that the other's don't?

What's more interesting is why now? Why Velma? What does her POV bring to the storytelling table that the other's don't? I think it has to do with the Internet attention she received due to her sexuality speculations and someone wants to set the record straight. BTW, more exciting plot reveals. Mindy posted more details with an Instagram post: http://instagram.com/p/CLHuEKArdBO The caption reads: "I’m so excited to be voicing this iconic character! Velma will struggle to navigate the pitfalls of high school, her budding sexuality, and a serial killer intent on murdering every popular kid in town. Sounds epic, @charliegrandy! Can’t wait!" So we have high school, sexuality and a murder mystery. This sounds great to be honest.
