I haven't watched this yet. Truthfully I haven't watched much television in the last half year, finding them not engaging/distracting enough during a particularly difficult mental health situation on my part. So I've been heavily engaged in playing an mmo instead. But I've currently got a stomach virus and just don't have the energy for that kind of engaged mind focused activity, so was thinking of checking out one of the shows in my backlog, and this is forefront (would watch now but really tired and probably gonna sleep).
Anyways, I'm hoping for a non-spoilery review to guage if this is up my alley or not, or at least worth checking. Just a general overview on the tone and whether you liked it or not, or a link to a reviewer you trust please.

Just a general overview on the tone and whether you liked it or not, or a link to a reviewer you trust please. I'm sorry to hear you've been going through a hard time, and that you've been sick. I personally didn't really enjoy the show, tbh. The mystery involving a serial killer is interesting and engaging, but IMO the mystery is overshadowed by the show's raunchy humor. There is a lot of "edgy just for the sake of edgy" jokes here. I also didn't feel the characters were written well, particularly Velma. Velma is very judgmental and unkind to all of those around her, so much so that when her character finally does get some development in the season finale, it was not compelling to me because the show had made her so unlikeable by that point. While the mystery itself is engaging, the pacing is not very good in the show and it's not even really covered much until the second half of the show. A good example of this that there is one episode that I think would have been a great setting for the villain to appear, but the serial killer only shows up for four minutes at the end and we instead get a social commentary on Velma experiencing male privilege. So honestly, I wouldn't recommend this show. My biggest issue with it is the unlikeable characters, but the raunchy humor also gets to be a bit much, especially when it overshadows the mystery. I also thought this YouTube review did a good job expressing what's not the best about the show: youtu.be/-XwvqPnnx6E

I also thought this YouTube review did a good job expressing what's not the best about the show: youtu.be/-XwvqPnnx6EUgh, I'm sorry to hear that. The crass Family Guy/Rick and Morty humor they said they wanted to pursue was always my biggest concern about this show. I actually like Family Guy and Rick and Morty, but those are the types of comedy I can only stomach in small doses once a week or once every other week, not something I'd care to binge watch. Like I love the Harley Quinn show to pieces, but it's nothing I'd want to see in a Scooby property largely.
As for Velma being mean and unlikeable, that's the hard dealbreaker for me. I don't care that they changed her race - it's 2023, as long as I can point to her in a line up and say "that's Velma" I'm good, and while I'm not a fan of this type of artstyle she looks like Velma to me. I don't care if they expand on her sexuality - I thought the crush last film was cute and handled smartly even if I'd have preferred it wasn't directed at a villain who had discussed killing the Scooby Gang literally two minutes prior (really Velma? A girl who wants you dead is your type?). But Velma and the rest of the gang being nice, loveable, generally good people deep down is the one thing you can't change. These people are supposed to be friends, role models, who love to help people and solve mysteries together. It's the one thing you absolutely shouldn't mess up. Hate to hear it, but thanks for telling me.
And thanks. This isn't the place to discuss it, but I don't feel right saying I've been having a bad time and not saying why, so I'll give the very streamlined version. So last June about I was feeling incredibly good about myself, a rarity for me. I felt good enough to risk something I tend to stay away from - self reflection. I looked into what I was doing that was making me feel good, what I usually do that doesn't, and honestly allowed myself to consider something that's popped up every now and then, but that I've always dismissed before. And once I did that, once I allowed myself to be honest and open to it, I discovered a crushing wave of gender dysphoria that I was not prepared for or am willing to confront right now. So the last half year or so has been mostly an attempt to just keep my mind occupied with anything else, hence a lot more time playing videogames.

Thank you.

So the last half year or so has been mostly an attempt to just keep my mind occupied with anything else, hence a lot more time playing videogames. Yeah, I think my biggest concern about the comedy is that the show tries to cement itself so much as being "edgy" that the humor begins to feel try-hard, because the humor is placed so front-and-center while the mystery is frequently pushed to the background. The occasional "so random it's funny" joke made me laugh, but the jokes were very hit or miss for me, with a majority of them being misses. I definitely don't have any issue with them changing her race or sexuality either. I thought Velma's sexuality was handled decently in Trick or Treat and didn't really mind the villain thing, but I can see why someone might not like it. I completely agree with you that the gang members are loveable, kind people and that's the big thing that bothered me about the show. I watched the whole season and kind of accepted that the humor wasn't going to great mid-way through, but the issue that continued to bother me is that Velma, Fred and Daphne (especially Velma) are all portrayed as not so great people. Norville is the only decent member of the gang in the show that isn't judgmental or selfish. I'm so sorry to hear that! That sounds horrible and I hope the distraction is helpful right now, but I also hope that you'll eventually be able to figure out what's right for you and find happiness.

Most of Season 2 is already completed so it is finishing production off. However the series is not continuing after the current order, and I've been told that Season 2 might air on a streaming service called Tubi instead.

Tubi has a TON of Scooby content so this makes perfect sense. It's the only legally free place to watch TNSDMysteries, for instance.
