Yes, j3h, I have read that, and I am okay with reading that. I just think that nothing said behind the scenes can prove anything, especially when it comes to continuity. I look at was has been said within the episodes for proof, and there hasn't been anything to prove SDMI is on a different continuity.

The bitter truth is that Great Danes have a life expectancy of around 10-12 years so from the live action movies it makes sense that they didn't get Scooby till they were teenagers. However, the life expectancy of a talking Great Dane in a cartoon is reported to be considerably longer. That's right. Some things are different in the Scooby-Doo world.

I just think that nothing said behind the scenes can prove anything, especially when it comes to continuity. I look at was has been said within the episodes for proof, and there hasn't been anything to prove SDMI is on a different continuity. I know that's how you feel, which is why I didn't want to upset you when presenting one the creative team saying otherwise. Does this sound like the continuity debate? A baker made some cupcakes and put them on display. A customer came in and tried a sample declaring "these are really sweet, you must have used ingredient X." "No" replied the baker," I used ingredient Y, which while very similar to ingredient X, it is indeed from a different source." "No no no." insisted the customer. "I've seen others make cupcakes that look and taste like this, they must use ingredient X." The baker sighed, "well, I'm sorry but ingredient X was not used by me, I can see why you may think that since I wanted these cupcakes to be familiar but yet unique at the same time, but honestly when I made these, I used ingredient Y. It allowed me to mix the batter differently" "Well I taste ingredient X, so therefore that is what is in these. That's all that matters." the customer concluded and left. "I sure hope he's not allergic to ingredient Y." the baker stated to himself shrugging.

It sounds like an argument about an ingredient. I'm not sure how that would be about continuity.

All j3h is saying is that everyone believes different things.

Differing opinions...we all see things in a different way. When you watch Scooby episodes, you may not view it like I do. I think in the situation of continuity, you have to remember that each series is it's own incarnation, and they will not always be based on the same "proof." When you have different animators, writers, producers, directors, etc. it is impossible to retain continuity. Each one of them has their opinion of how Scooby should be, and that is what they turn it into. Many people say Pup isn't a true reflection of SD because that was when they were kids and the original series started when they were already teenagers, so Pup was just made up to create a new series and any info that we may have learned from it can't be true.
I think it's important to view each series with an open mind and keep in mind that there will be inconsistencies between the series because there are different people working on them.

So, do you view SDMI as being on a different continuity?

I think each series is a separate entity. They don't build the series off of each other. What the directors/producers choose to take from past series is up to them, but each series is open to its own interpretation of the gang. I could totally understand if they based each new series off of a continuation of the last, then I could see that they would have to have continuity between the series.

Wow. Well, I think you know how I view things. Pretty much the opposite of you.
So, do you even view A Pup Named SD and What's New SD as being on separate continuities? I think of What's New as being a good continuation of A Pup. The town is still Coolville, plus the flashback to Velma's birthday.

I do view them as different entities because they are not really continuations. I think the flashback was just something they chose to take from the Pup series. I would like to see continuity between the series, don't get me wrong. I don't expect it though because I know they are separate series.

I view everything as being on one big continuity (besides Goes Hollywood, the Mystery Begins and Lake Monster of course). To me, the characters are the characters, and the different series/movies are just showing them at different times in their lives.

I don't think the series are intended that way. If the same people worked on all the shows, you would see more continuity. But because different people work on them, you will find a lot of inconsistencies.

Yep. I know inconsistencies are going to happen. That's not enough for me to separate each series from everything else though.
