I know, and I don't think Lae meant for it to be hurtful either- which is partially why I pointed it out. Sometimes people say things without meaning to offend people, but it still happens- I've done it myself. Just wanted to make it known for future reference.
I think as long as things don't get out of hand, a thread shouldn't be locked just because people disagree or even take offense to something. I don't want to spoil everyone else's fun just because a comment agitated me.

My favorite couple is Fred and Daphne................. They have respect for each other and they just go together well. And on the same-sex couple issue, they're exactly the same as a heterosexual couple. They just happen to have the same genitalia. That's it.
The "not something you want to see" line is kinda hurtful, y'know. :/To be fair, I don't think Lae ment it to be hurtful, but I also understand your view on how it can be. I do think we can continue and stay positive here, but I'll keep an eye on things so no one ends up being offended or worse. I am optimistic that we don't need to lock every thread that this subject comes up in or to be overly reactionary towards it, but again we are all here for fun and when the fun stops so does the thread. Yea, I didn't mean for it to be hurtful. It's just hard for me to explain, but I'll try. I don't have anything against gay people at all. I just want the main characters to be who they are, and I don't view Velma as being gay. If there was a couple in the show that was gay, I would be okay with that, I'd just rather not see it as a main part of the show. j3h- I am also hoping we can continue and stay positive here and that there will be no need for this thread to be locked. Respectfully explaining views without bashing or attacking.

I agree- I also don't think threads should be locked because people disagree or even take offense to something. As long as nobody is attacking and name calling, or being harsh, I don't think locking the thread is really necessary.

Believe me when I say I have no desire to go about locking threads or telling people what they can or can not post. That's not what I'm about, even with the shiny new admin hat. I just want to make sure we can all share our opinions and still have fun even when it comes to a sensitive subject. We're not all going to agree, and that's fine. Just try to be aware of how you ("you" is not directed at any one person) might be coming across or your words interpreted by someone else. sometimes a simple rephrasing can make a load of difference. Anyhoo What other random couplings haven't we explored? Daphne and former Mayor Jones anyone? Anyone? This thing on?

"I don't see how Shaggy and Daphne's personalities match up better."
In that case, would you like to hear my opinion on why on think they do? No ship wars, just sharing thoughts. After all, not everyone's gonna ship the same thing.
I'd like to ask, is anyone gonna roll their eyes and me and just say what I think is silly just because I have a different opinion?

No, your opinion matters and no one should be saying that yours is any sillier than their own. We don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or that they can't share their thoughts here on the forum. I can't speak for that particular post, but I'd like to think that they didn't mean yours is less valid.

Thanks.
I don't know if anyone here's heard of the Hopeless Romantic page, but it states a few good reasons why some could see Shaphne. After the gang split up, it was just Shaggy, Daphne and the dogs traveling the world. Sounds like a real cozy situation. Shaggy meets Daphne's parents in "No Thanks, Masked Manx", and they seemed to be quite of him. They also dance together at the masquerade ball. There's also the 13 Ghosts series where they seem to be living together. Even in "Where Are You!", they compliment each other (like how Daphne states Shaggy is "the swiningest gymnast in school!") and Daphne even makes him a special "Shaggy snack".
Of course, I think Shaphne mostly works in the series where they're the only humans in the gang. When they're all together, I think it's better off they're just friends (though I don't mind hints toward Frephne).

I went with Fraphne. It's the one relationship that's always been developed (at least recently) in a way I've found interesting.

I'm not too big on the relationships explored in SDMI, but I do have a certain appreciation for the subtle, if not playful flirting between Fred and Daphne that has been developed over the course of history and the current DTV movies. I think understand where Lae is coming from on the Velma subject, so I'll try to explain for myself at least...
There are not many gay/lesbian figures in pop culture, especially among fictional characters. Therefore, if Velma were to come out, the general public would forever define Velma as gay. While there isn't necessarily anything wrong with that, except at this point in our society it'd be a distraction. Velma would go from the smart one to the gay one, and the producers of the shows and movies probably would not want that kind of (potentially negative) attention on the series. They say that any publicity is good publicity, but this is a kids show at the core, not a platform for making an arguably political statement. So while it's not right to say that she shouldn't be gay, it's not necessary to establish any definitive gay/straight designation...at least not right now.

It is a shame that a character's sexual orientation would become the be-all and end-all event of the show, especially as that is not the point of the show. Relationships as a whole are a dicey ground for children's shows as for most kids (esp pre-teens)_the relationship side is plain old boring. If they were to do a more 'grown-up' series of Scooby Doo then they could cover these grounds as it would not be a kids show. Not sure what the market for it would be, they could do it in graphic novel form as it would be cheaper.

But I do see why some people might suspect there was something more going on. I don't see how the personalities themselves match up better than Fred and Daphne's though. And I think there are far more things that point to Fred and Daphne being together.

I don't want to see Velma become "the lesbian" instead of "the smart one". (I'm not saying lesbians can't be smart, it's just not what I want her image to become.) I feel like it would be a distraction to what the show is suppose to be about- the gang coming together to solve another mystery, ect. 24994j: "So while it's not right to say that she shouldn't be gay, it's not necessary to establish any definitive gay/straight designation...at least not right now." I think it's okay for people to look at how Velma has been so far and judge for themselves weather they think she is gay or not. I happen to believe she is not gay, and I believe most of the facts point to her being straight, but other people might believe something different.

That's nice. I mostly use the shows done by Hanna-Barbera themselves to look for evidence. To be honest, I never though HB were ever too serious on the relationships, not even Fred and Daphne (I didn't see much Frephne hints after the New Scooby-Doo Movies). We see them dancing together and physical contact, but that also happened with her and Shaggy later on.
They have similar personalities (fun loving, homorous, compasionate), similar faults (clumsy, finding trouble or vise-versa, making mistakes on mysteries), and they have the same interests (going to Funland, dancing, playing with toys, digging for clams at the beach, costume parties, etc.).
Of course, that's not to say HB made them a couple. But I never saw them being serious about the whole thing anyway. The show was always about the mysteries, as it should be.
Now, on the whole Velma's sexuality thing, I never really saw any proof in the original series. But since today's series is different, I suppose it would be expected they go that route eventually.
