I actually always liked Daphne the most. As a little kid, I loved her when I watched the original series because, even though she was dumbed down a TON in comparison to now, she was still "the girl" of the team. I could relate to her the most, I guess.
((She's actually influenced me a bit- I love purple and green, and if I ever dye my hair a natural color, red is my definite choice. The fact that half of my family is redheaded helps too, but yeah. I should get back on track.))
Since then, she's had so much character development it isn't even funny. Daphne's way more independent and a lot less danger-prone than before, and just has a lot more overall character. She's not helpless anymore either, and can get herself- and others- out of sticky situations too instead of just being the damsel in distress.
To be honest, I love this new and improved Daphne even more than the old one- which, paired with the better animation (and probably my age, to a degree), is mostly why I have a bias towards the new show.
The only thing that seems to be a downfall to her mainly independent character is her infatuation with Fred in SD:MI. I understand that it's just an exaggeration of what really does happen, and as much as I like them as a couple, her overwhelming adoration and the whole thing just flying way over Fred's head gets to me.
...Well that went off topic. But yep. She's my favorite, but to each their own I guess.

Daphne didn't get captured nearly as many times people think she did. A lot of the time she'd untie herself anyway, and just bump into Scooby and Shaggy. I like her clumsiness and her mannerisms. Daphne is my favourite fictional character of everything :3

For some reason I like alliterative nicknames, like Mixed-Up Melanie or Clumsy Clark. Apparently Daphne had one of those.

She didn't really have much of a personality until the series where it was just her, shaggy, scooby, and scrappy. I will admit that much, but after that she had some good qualities that I liked about her.

Scooby's extroverted energy would be too much for me to handle sometimes, admittedly.

I know she became a leader, but was there anything else? The orignal had her being clumsy, ditsy, a product of the times (saying groovy and such), a damsel (I must be the only one who doesn't mind this trope, if we have Velma I'm fine with Daphne being one), a go getter, kind hearted, somewhat short tempered and good at finding clues in plain sight.

I believe I agree with you to a point about there being tidbits of Daphne's character in the original series that most people overlook but yes, Daphne did go through a bit of an evolution during the 80's. The complaint that she wasn't overly developed from '69-13 Ghosts is a bit ridiculous in my opinion as no one was really that well developed in the early series'. The main heads of the franchise are Scooby and Shaggy and as a result they got the most screentime and the most development while their co-stars just kind of fell to the wayside. Neither Fred nor Velma were overly developed early on but I don't hear many people complaining about that. When the series dropped down to 3 mains with Scrappy and Flim Flam thrown in, Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby were all touched on a little more but I believe the biggest difference was with Daphne. This was the beginning of her being more assertive and take charge. It also developed a bond with Shaggy that, while scattered to the winds after these two series', added a lot to her character at the time.

To be honest my first two favorite characters are Scooby and Shaggy (Hanna-Barbera era) with Daphne (Scrappy era) being my third favorite character. Daphne seemed to be the driest character during the 1969/1970's era. I hate the modern Daphne (since Pup) who is no more then a Mary Sue but I'm okay with Daphne in Be Cool.

Daphne was pretty useless before the 80s, but I think you could get away with it because she wasn't annoying and personalities traits were mellow compared to how she is now. She was most usefulness in the 80s when she had to basically take charge, and she really proved herself in myself and I don't think she will ever be as good as she was then (except for in Be Cool, I loved her pretty much in every episode). I also liked her in Pup, because everything was supposed to be done with humour.
Almost every HB show with teenagers had the jealous girl in love with the ignorant All-American boy, who had no clue that he was doing something wrong. Somehow, and I'm super grateful, this was avoided in Scooby-Doo (except the implications, which apparently no one did on purpose), until now. They're really making up for it. Daphne is a major horny floozy who does nothing but tease Fred and lead him on (and Fred is no better). I liked in the beginning, but it's unbearable now. AND WARNER BROTHERS WILL JUST KEEP ON PUTTING DAPHNE AND FRED IN TERRIBLE, INSIPID JEALOUSY SUBPLOTS THAT ONLY TRASH THE TWO. There's also nothing interesting about her that makes up for it. Moon Monster Madness actually made a good attempt, then fell so very low with Rock and Roll Mystery. I just couldn't stand her in that. I don't think she'll ever be redeemed in the movies, but at least I'll still have Be Cool.

Nobody outside of Be Cool can make Daphne interesting in my opinion. For recent movies I can say Big Top and Moon Monster Madness, but that's about it. What's New has some okay, even some great things, but all of that is lost now.

Daphne is at her best in TNSDMysteries/13 Ghosts era IMO. She takes charge like Fred but she doesn't steal the camera and is just really herself.

In fact, I'd love to see a new show with just Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy and her. That'd be pretty awesome.

It would take a lot of creative writing to break the normal line up after so many years. It would be really interesting to see what direction that could go in! It worked in the 80s.
