Hold on... Scrappy was an important character in Boo Brothers, Ghoul School, Reluctant Werewolf... It would totally work if they did a movie like those again. My only request is they feature Daphne also, it was strange not seeing her included. But yeah a new movie like this would be amazing! I think most of us are sick of the lack of variation with the DTV movies lately, all are the 5 members of the gang solving a hour and fiveteen minute movie where the ghost is a fake, Shaggy/Scooby/Scrappy/(hopefully Daphne) would be a breath of fresh air in an era where we get 2-3 DTVs a year!

I prefer them not to be real. Then Velma or someone doesn't have to act amnesiac when an executive decides that they should be fake again.

I wonder... Is the writer of Boo Brothers still alive?

I wonder... Is the writer of Boo Brothers still alive? Jim Ryan hasn't worked on a TV show since 1995, I'm guessing he's retired, or he's dead. Don't know really.

I actually don't mind Scrappy myself, but I did find him annoying at first, particularly during the first season of Scooby and Scrappy, even if the change in dynamic with Scooby, Shaggy, and Scrappy was a welcomed addition, and I'm didn't much care for how much he kept hogging the spotlight in each episode.
However when Scrappy mellowed a bit later on, particularly when Messick started voicing the character. The character was still a bit annoying, but I'm found him a bit more enjoyable to watch. He was also helpful particularly during the "New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo" phase, so while Scrappy was indeed an annoying character, I would not consider him useless. I also liked how he eventually grew to get scared of the ghosts themselves to the point where sometimes he'd run off, like in Wedding Bell-Blues. That was a nice addition.
I don't however much care for how WB has treated the character over the years. I know he's looked at, as being the black-sheep of the franchise, but in retrospect, he was actually a fine character, especially by the end of the original HB run.

I've emailed the guy who worked on the music for Zombie Island and he replied back! Edit: Jim Ryan is gonna be a lot harder to track down. Sigh. Such a common name.

I like Scrappy but think when he returns, it should be as a guest star.

I like the mature Scrappy. The thing I hate is that the haters look at the early Scrappy as bad but they forget that he matured in later incarnations. I also think that Flim Flam was created so the Scrappy haters would hate him instead and forget about Scrappy. According to a writer from that show, that's the exact reason Flim Flam was created. Bill and Joe wanted to keep Scrappy around so they had the writers create a character fans could find even more annoying so they'd even grow to like Scrappy.

Honestly SDMI and the live action movies ruined the taste of Shelma in my opinion.

I know replying to an old thread isn't always acceptable but I thought it'd be better than making a new topic. As I have said in other boards on this site, I like Scrappy but haven't seen a cartoon with Scrappy and the whole gang since I was a little kid. I don't remember it well.
I watched Scooby Doo Meets the Boo Brothers way back when I was 15 years old and later watched Ghoul School and Reluctant Werewolf not long after. I loved them. Just a few years ago, I watched 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo and liked it.
I admit, I am hesitent to watch any of the early ones with Scrappy and the whole gang since I have heard so many fans insist Scrappy is super annoying in them.
Edit: I forgot to mention that about 6 years ago I watched Scooby Doo Meets the Boo Brothers with an Aunt of mine who had only watched the original cartoon. Her first response when watching it was, "Where's Fred, Velma, and Daphne?" and I told her they weren't in it. But she ended up enjoying it. It works better without them anyway. They'd find the Sherriff suspious from the start and then set a trap for one of the ghosts right away resulting in everything being solved in 20 minutes of screentime.

I also think that Flim Flam was created so the Scrappy haters would hate him instead and forget about Scrappy. That's exactly why Flim-Flam was created. The head writers for that season have even said so themselves.

If they made Scrappy more like the Boo Brothers version, then that would be fine. Having Flim Flam back for the 13 Ghosts sequel but not Scrappy made no sense. Both characters were essential parts of 13 Ghosts, having one but not the other ignores the original storyline

Regarding Scrappy in his debut series, I would say give it a shot when you have free time. If you like it, that's awesome! But if you don't, that's fine too. Personally, I didn't really find him annoying, I was moreso distracted by Lennie Weinrib's take on the character (doesn't work at all, recasting him with Don Messick was an excellent choice)
