I liked Scrappy in The 13 ghosts of Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, but not much on anything else. I think he was more helpful to the gang in these episodes/movie. And he was kinda a cute little puppy! .

I'm curious if more it has to do with more older people that never had a problem with certain characters just evening out the playingfield. I'm in my mid-forties, wasn't keen on him when I was a kid, still not that keen on him now.

I'm curious if more it has to do with more older people that never had a problem with certain characters just evening out the playingfield. I'm in my mid-forties, wasn't keen on him when I was a kid, still not that keen on him now. I was making a broader statement on that part beyond just scrappy. Since in truth a lot of older television, literature, film pieces had a really negative slant amongst earlier days of the internet. Mostly due to the general truth that before a lot more average older people used the internet it was held a lot more in the hands of the snobbish of my generation and kids younger that was in a lot of cases got a lot of their "information" from the other sources. Essentially spreading some of those questionable sources further than they should be. That being said, as you have voluntarily said. This is not to say that a lot of things didn't always have dislikers. Of course they did. Everything has haters, just as everything has fans. And in fact under scrutiny of number crunching more often than not most media will come out in the middle when weighed than they are either really liked or really hated. Which is what you see more today, some people who like it, some who dislike it. But in earlier days of the internet (and still true on some websites) even mentioning you liked something will get you blacklisted or other such nonsense. But like I said the more people who use such sites, the more the site's balance will become and more often than not you'll get to hear both sides of the argument and the more open it becomes. This has happened quite a bit to sites like youtube and IMDB, where as more users join a lot of things i remember back in my teens that were in that negative spectrum are now a lot more balanced in terms of comments. As in truth they probably always were.

I don't mind Scrappy. He has this funny annoyance. And after all, he saved the show back then.

I can dislike many things, but there are very few things I actually hate. Please do not do a 'bait and switch' on what I said to suit your argument. Someone who is not a fan of something is not automatically a hater of it.

I think he was just talking about haters in general, not singling you out as one.
But to the topic, I never minded Scrappy and think some of the anti-Scrappy stuff is blown out of proportion (not that I can't see why a lot of fans would find him annoying). He was brought in to add something new into a show that was getting a bit long in the tooth, and that did seem to keep it going for a while. Not that I think he was a great character, but when it comes to late additions to shows I've seen far worse ones. I did miss Fred, Velma and Daphne (until the latter returned, of course) when they left, and the shorts with just Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy were pretty hit-or-miss, in my opinion.

I was just using those as a molding point. You can keep it really generic and go with "approve", "disapprove" or "indifferent". Then you could take the "approve" group and divide it up between those that really love it and those that just like it. All the same the "disapprove" group can similarly be divided amongst people who just disliked it and flat out hate it.
I pretty much just used those words interchangeably in that paragraph as the example of the "disapprove" side. I should have been more separate or have just used the approve/disapprove instead of using the fan/hater thing to express that point. As in truth every property is going to have people all over the scale.

I can see why some would find him annoying in his original series, but he was too adorable to hate as soon as Daphne returned! I'm surprised I even disliked him as long as I did. He definitely brings a different dynamic to the formula. The Scrappy years were a nice change and a lot of fun! I honestly wouldn't mind him making a comeback to the series. Warner Brothers doesn't seem to like sticking to one specific style anyway, considering their multiple universes/canons.

Scrappy was made a villain in the live action movie, but besides that, in the so far movies I've seen including him, I find him adorably cute. (If there's such thing ). I understand why some people might think of him as annoying, but I don't share that thought. I really like this little guy!

I loved Scrappy as a kid, before I even knew I was "supposed" to hate him. I loved that he actually had the balls to stand up to the monsters, and one of the gang always had to take him away before he got hurt.
I recently learned that when he first came to the show, ratings increased and he was actually liked - which leads me to believe there are actually a lot of hypocritical closeted Scrappy fans out there who ALSO loved him as a kid but just joined the Scrappy-hater bandwagon of the 2000s because it was the cool thing to do at the time.
I suspect it was the second half of the Scooby Doo Show where they had the monsterless 7-minute eps that led many people to eventually hate Scrappy.
The over-the-top ridiculous character assassination of Scrappy in the 2002 movie was one of the major reasons I hated that movie so much.

I'll admit, I didn't realize some Scooby fans didn't like Scrappy until I read a spoiler about the original live action movie. I do think he is a bit annoying after it was pointed out to me, but while watching the episodes he was in, just enjoyed the show for what it was. To each their own.
