Some more sad news today: the third book, titled "Buried Secrets," will be the last in the series, according to a recent interview with author Morgan Baden. oomscholasticblog.com/post/jinkies-conversation-author-morgan-baden-and-editor-beth-dunfey-daphne-and-velma-ya-reimagining?fbclid=IwAR3MYUmHYauN2gxbkpBMNEJYVs9uJqjhYGKjFJ1Vu3aNouGHkgGq3tf4kNk For some reason, the interview says that it will be released in July, but I think this may be a typo given all other sites list June, even Scholastic's own site. Here's the summary of the final book: "In Buried Secrets, a television show based on the mysteries of Crystal Cove is being filmed in town, and of course Daphne and Velma are involved with it…and of course, some mysterious things happen. We really heightened the stakes in this book in significant ways, thanks to your suggestions, Beth! People get hurt…and someone even gets murdered. So Daphne and Velma, with help from Shaggy and Fred, have a really big case on their hands." I'm kind of thinking Morgan Baden published the first book under the pseudonym Josephine Ruby now, because the interview acts like she wrote all the books.

Kind of a shame, the book series has been so good with the first two entries. I guess book trilogies are still big these days...
Glad the third one is till coming out though.

Here's the cover for the final book, which will be written by Morgan Baden. It sort of makes me wonder if Morgan Baden was the one using that Josephine Ruby pseudonym for the first book.

Even exceptionally famous authors have been known to hide their real name on early releases, such as Stephen King's The Running Man.

Aw, it's gonna be the last one?? That's a bummer. I was enjoying them. That reminds me, though, I need to go pre-order it.
I've heard some people call this series the Riverdale of Scooby Doo. Having watched Riverdale, I can't agree. It's WAY too tame. I'd probably say SDMI is closer to being the "Riverdale", just by virtue of it including an Eldritch being and the relationship drama, but it's still nowhere near close to the craziness and campiness.

Are they in the second? AND OMG WE'RE GETTING MURDERS?! Each year, we get one step closer to Family Guy's joke of "The Scooby-Doo Murder Mysteries" becoming real and I'm so here for it.

I was gonna buy this series eventually, but I may as well scoop up the trilogy when the third comes out. Lemme guess, no Scrappy?

I mean, with a realistic no talking Scooby I'm not sure how you'd even introduce Scrappy.

One of the girls (probably Daphne, given their partnership in various continuities) gets a puppy and names it Scrappy.

Which sadly we won't get, because...we can't have nice things?

Which sadly we won't get, because...we can't have nice things? I mean, it honestly feels like a C-plot to me if anything. I haven't read the novels (yet), but I imagine the A-plot is the mystery, the B-plot is the D&V friendship, and then the C-plot (the least important one of all in a narrative) is anything happening in their personal lives. Such as getting a new puppy that you would interact with maybe two or three times throughout the book lol It's not like Scrappy in this hypothetical is actually the puppy of a diamond smuggler and is involved in the main plot somehow. lol

Even down to the "new puppy that you would interact with maybe two or three times throughout the book," except instead of a new puppy, they only interact with Scooby about that often haha.
