I'm actually really pleasantly surprised by this novel from the sneak excerpt. Tons of references to SDMI plus Fred, Shaggy and Scooby appear! It's like Riverdale crossed with SDMI (which is what people have been demanding for awhile)

has a nancy drew vibe to them, if nancy had a fellow female partner. So once Fred and Shaggy and Scooby show up and this continuity, would that make Fred an amalgamation of both Frank and Joe Hardy? Shaggy would probably be more like Ace Ventura, pet detective.

Here's the cover for #2, coming out July 7. #2 is also written by someone different this time, Morgan Baden.

Just bought this off Amazon the other day, looking forward to reading it when it arrives. And amazed the sequel is coming out so soon! Is it usual for a book series to have entries out this quick?

Update - read it a few days back, loved it! So good! Eagerly awaiting sequel now!
Well, that sums up my feelings quite well but also shows why I suck as a reviewer.

Well you've read the book which is more than some reviewers do :-) As an aside, my copy arrives tomorrow. I really hope that isn't true - but then again I don't read many reviews so no clue. How do you even do a review without reading it? It's definitely interesting, a more grounded style than usual (Scooby can't talk) and there's definitely some SD:MI love in there (it takes place in Crystal Cove), but it is totally it's own thing - Marcy is Daphne's friend instead of Velma's for instance. But don't want to say anything plot related and accidentally let slip any spoilers. Suffice it to say it's definitely a good page turner. Stayed up all night when I got it to finish it. Hope you like it! If you enjoy YA fiction though I wouldn't worry. I don't read near as many books as I should, but I did read the YA Lois Lane books which is in a similar vein to this (albeit a different writer), so I felt pretty confident I might enjoy this too. Less than a month till the sequel.

She's Velma's cousin from What's New I don't remember them mentioning her being Velma's cousin in the book - unless it was like one line in the first chapter that I forgot. Marcy's just kind of Daphne's friend in this book.
