I'll admit when I first saw the artwork for Be Cool Scooby Doo when it was first revealed to exist I was disappointed. The way the gang was degitally drawn/designed (since I presume none of the show was physically drawn) looked worse than the Family Guy parody of them, which was just sad. However I nevertheless looked up the first episode online when it came out, as up here in Canada I haven't seen it on TV once, and was pleasantly suprised. The gang still looked awful but the writing made up for that in heaps, it did the thing SDMI forgot to do, comedy. I laughed far more than I expected to in the first episode, the tactics security guard cracked me up more than I care to admit and that vending machine bit was brillant. Good work to whoever came up with that bit! It was nice to see a lesser knwon/used villian from SDWAY make an appearance as well, instead of seeing the boring old Black Knight, Zombie, Werewolf or Creeper for the millionth time. Daphne however was annoying as Flim Flam for me though. Velma's new voice actresses did an ok job but she wasn't great or anything similar, just adequate. Though in fairness to her this is her first time doing the role so we can't be too harsh.
The second episode was pretty good as well, which was nice to see since I was worried the quality of the first episode would be a one off thing. The "monster" if you can call it that was basicly a walking comedy show with no creepy/scary qualities in sight (then again Be Cool doesn't seem to be going for creepy) but the episode still made me laugh a suprising amount, mostly thanks to the park ranger though Daphne was amusing at first...before becoming annoying and boring. However the third episode disappointed me, I can't remember laughing much at all and it was quite forgettable (I watched it when it came out). All I remember is that it was underwater at some point, the monsters was a sea monster of sorts and Daphne's "thing" was something to do with animals and wasn't funny. It just feels like they didn't know what to do with her as a character. Still despite me disliking the art style and Daphne I'm happy I gave it a chance after all.
And of course there's no poorly written cringy romance like in SDMI, that's certainly a plus for me! That was one of the main things I didn't like about SDMI, not that the show was bad. I mean it did bring back the Hex Girls after all (who looked far better in their original outfits in season 2 than the new outfits in 1). Hmmm maybe Be Cool could do that somewhere, either have the Hex Girls appear (preferably with the same voice actresses they've always had) or have a poster of them in an episode as a nice little reference.
Just thought I'd throw in my metaphorical two cents (or pence since I'm British) for discussion and ask three small questions if I may. Does Be Cool Scooby get as good as the first episode again in terms of humour and the like? Does Daphne keep her "thing" for each episode up? And is it just me or do almost all the human characters (basicly everyone bar the gang) look like they got lost on their way to Gravity Falls?
If it does get better/retain the quality of the first episode I may come back to watch it sometime soon in the New Year. I would watch it now but currently my free time is filled with drawing one of every SDWAY monster, of which there are far more than I thought there were, and I'd rather get them out the way first. And oh great I rambled again...

I would watch it now but currently my free time is filled with drawing one of every SDWAY monster, of which there are far more than I thought there were, and I'd rather get them out the way first. I have to agree with you about my first impression of the designs being disappointing, but I did get used to them once I saw the series. I really liked the security guard and vending machine bit as well. I may be wrong on this, but I think the head writer Jon Colton Barry came up with those jokes (he also happens to be a member here under the name JCB). To answer your questions: 1. I personally think the show is great and the humor remains good throughout the whole series so far (I've seen all 15 episodes that have aired). The only episode I disliked was episode 4 "Poodle Justice" because for me the jokes were too juvenile and immature. Although, I don't necessarily agree with you on every point either (I thought Daphne owing the dolphins $15 in episode 3 was hilarious) so we may have different senses of humor, so I'm not sure my opinion is what you're looking for. The episodes that really stick out for me are episode 8, 9, 12 and 15 as being exceptional, but to me all the episodes are good. 2. Daphne's "thing" (they've been nicknamed "Daphneisms" by numerous fans around the Internet, but I think JCB said he referred to them as "Daphne du Jours") is in nearly every episode (episode 8 and 14 are the only ones that don't have one), but it's something different every episode. I think my personal favorites are the falconry one and the slumber party one (and the mascot / pep talk one is really cute too). They are a lot like the one with the dolphins that you mentioned you didn't like, so I'm not sure if you'll like any of the other ones. As for your third question, I've never seen Gravity Falls so I can't really answer that, but I know a bunch of people here have said they love the show, so maybe they can answer that better than I can. And oh great I rambled again... Actually I prefer reading these longer, more in-depth threads rather than quickly posting replies to one-sentence posts, so don't feel like you're rambling at all. It gives more for people to discuss and keeps the forum more active because everyone has more to talk about and discuss together

I think most people can agree that the artwork was really disappointing. I know a lot of people that refused to even give the show a chance because of the artwork. My first thought was that it was going to be another Get a Clue! But when I heard the writers of Phineas & Ferb were writing Be Cool, I knew I had to watch it!
I've seen a few of the episodes and I like the show overall. The humor makes it easier to get past the way they look. It's nice to see a different portrayal of Scooby and the gang done well.
My youngest son said this is his favorite Scooby show ever!

It gives more for people to discuss and keeps the forum more active because everyone has more to talk about and discuss together Well if Jon Colton Barry did indeed come up with those jokes someone needs to give him a raise! The vending machine bit was just like something out the old (and WNSD, which isI suppose is getting to be considered old) Scooby Doos and gave me a brillant laugh. Good to hear the humor remains good and it's understandable you wouldn't like at least one episode, there's always that one we don't like even in the best of cartoons. It wasn't that I didn't not like Daphne's Daphneisms per say (bar the puppet one which found annoying) it's just that it seemed that was all there was to her character. I'd have probably liked that idea more if they rotated it through the characters, eg one episode there's Daphneisms the next there's Fredismes etc. Though as I said I've only seen three episodes so I can't fully judge the show yet, it'd be incredibly unfair for me to do so at this point. I've never seen it either bar adverts and after a quick google the characters from that show do look like the non-gang characters of Be Cool. Which isn't that bad since the style does work with what the show is going for. Maybe it'll draw introduce some fans of Gravity Falls to Scooby? Good to know on the longer threads part! It's far easier and more understandable to not confine ones thought to a short message, which I such at.

My youngest son said this is his favorite Scooby show ever! I just don't get why they need to keep reinventing the style. I'd prefer them to reinterept the main Scooby art style their own way, like the 1998-2001 movies did, rather than make a completely new style. But even though I dislike it I won't deny it does work for the tone the show is going for. I wasn't going to give the show a chance either originally, which I feel a bit bad about now, but I decided why not and watched the first episode. I only found about out the writers after, all of which have recovered it from it's art style. So good job to them! I'm liking how it's back to the old forumla per say and it's nice to have something more lighter and happier after SDMI. Though I am disappointed there's no theme song, Get a Clue! unfourtunetly has it beat on that note. Which is a shame since a theme song would work great for Be Cool. Well it's good someone's enjoying it then haha. It does make sense he would like it though as this does appear to be aimed at a younger auidence. Which is fair enough, could be a good starting point before moving up to the old Scooby Doo shows because let's be honest the older ones had some pretty creepy monsters. Like that creepy old Witch Doctor and the Ghost Clown, those two gave me many a nightmare as a child in the 90s.

The theme song is definitely missing!! They could have done something fun with a theme song.

The theme song is definitely missing!! They could have done something fun with a theme song. I find this ironic since since they have John Colton Barry. My biggest problem with the show is that it doesn't have a theme song with lyrics. It could've done something really rocking. I don't hate it, but it's nowhere near as good as the non-lyrical theme song of SDMI. If there's a season 2 (if CN ever finishes airing season 1), then I hope they consider redoing it.

SDMI made it work somehow. It would be nice for them to redo at some point for Be Cool.

SDMI made it work somehow. It would be nice for them to redo at some point for Be Cool. Well the tone of the musical intro worked for SDMI, it fit the darker tone the show was going for. Still it doesn't make you remember it like a proper theme song would. After all a good theme song has you remembering it for years to come and humming/singing it everynow and then...or maybe that's just me. I do wonder the actual reason for not having a theme song though, Be Cool is aimed at the younger demographic and when don't kids love singing songs?

I do hum the SDMI theme and picture the intro. Lol
I wonder if jcb can shed some light on the lack of lyrics for Be Cool?

I do hum the SDMI theme and picture the intro. Lol I wonder if jcb can shed some light on the lack of lyrics for Be Cool? All I remember is a vague X-Filesy kinda tune and pictures of the gang with their names next to them, which is fair enough since I haven't watched an episode of it since mid-2014. It'd be interesting if he could, since it does seem odd it doesn't have one. And just something I thought I should add to my intital opinion, since I just watched episode 4. The animation is great, as in the movements of the people (not the art style of the gang). They feel alive unlike in SDMI where everyone felt a bit like dolls at times, which whilst it worked for the art style it did result in characters look dead liveless. Which was odd when the voices were obviously so alive in comparison. Especially the Hex Girls who were lifeless and just depressing looking in SDMI, with their facial expressions rarely changing (with the exception of Dusk when she was speaking). SDMI Luna always looks like she's about to kill herself all the time and Thorn looks permanently annoyed. The eyes in Be Cool look alive too, if that makes any sense, which is one thing I felt SDMI failed with at times. Eyes are always important in making anmation full of life. Of course it's not the best animation in the franchise, that goes to the four movies from 1998-2001 (Everyone was so alive and almost real in those, both in terms of body language, face expressions and hair movement.), but that's fair enough. They are alive and well animated as they need to be for Be Cool to work and let's be honest here I doubt the budget for Be Cool was anywhere near as high was as it was for those four movies from 1998-2001, so it's unfair to compare the two.

I asked JCB about the theme song and why there are no lyrics to it on Twitter and this was his response:
"@scoobyaddict We were only allowed a 20 second theme song and it takes 30 seconds to sing even just "Be Cool Scooby Doo""

It sounds like they may have tried to. I just think it's let down, really, I mean, what's up with Cartoon Network? Even Wabbit got lyrics and it didn't even say "Wabbit". Saying "Be Cool, Scooby-Doo" could be done in a second depending on how you say, or even just say "Scooby-Doo". No theme song between Where Are You and Pup actually used the name of the show ( The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries never sung "The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries", etc.)

Lyrics would have made it better, but I guess they did what they were able to do. We never think of the limitations they have. It must be frustrating for them!
