Any who, what is wrong with a new pair anyway? What new pairing? Shaggy and Daphne where it was just one episode and one-sided?

I don't feel like Shaphne can happen. They were under the influence of a hallucinogenic compound. I also think most of Shaggy's interest in the thing was simply because he was making out with a girl, something that he probably hasn't experienced to any great degree.

I'm just tired of watching the same thing happen everytime. I found the Shelma refreshing and to be my favorite until I realized that it was an unhealthy relationship.
And when I say canon I mean what Hanna-Barbra had been implying until Time Warner took over. They did imply but fraphne but it didn't work and shift gears. I don't even think SDMI is actually part of the Scooby Doo continuity.
And I was talking about in the series as a whole, the WB never touched upon the possiblity of Daphne with another guy. Or Fred with another girl, only jealousy when they started to look at somebody new. Not just in SD:MI because it seems to me that this series is more like a published fanfiction.

I dunno, the fact all of these interactions tend to unhealthy (especially the parental relationships) is a big part of the humor for me.

Maybe it's the fact that some people act as if these relationships are completely normal turns some off?

I was talking about how some people actually think the whole Fred loving traps over Daphne and Velma treating Shaggy like dirt is a good thing.

Who's crazy enough to think that? I don't care if it's a cartoon; kids watch this and soon they're going to think that having that kind of relationship is a good thing.

I was talking about how some people actually think the whole Fred loving traps over Daphne and Velma treating Shaggy like dirt is a good thing. All of their relationships were dysfunctional, Fred's trap fetish, Daphne's myopic obsession with Fred, and the most bizzare love triangle between Shaggy/Scooby and Velma. IMO Shaggy's behaviour is just as inexcusable as Velma's, he led her on, lied to her, refused to publicly acknowledge their relationship and so on. It seems a lot of her actions were driven by her own insecurities, again none to healthy. Couple with some cack-handed writing of the relationship stuff you have some poor episodes.

I think some aspects (Fred preferring traps) are good...for comedy. I guess my interest in the relationships is so slight that I don't get quite as bothered by it.

Even though it's not really looked at in the series, I think the reason why Fred is really obsessed with traps (beside the fact that he does like them ), and has been distant with Daphne is because of intimacy issues with his Dad (well fake dad). He always tried to make his Dad proud and happy of him, and always tried to spend time with him, but his Dad never had the time of day for him. So when someone actually did want to be with him and be close to him, he got kind of scared because he didn't want to feel the same way his dad made him feel again (neglected, sad, alone, ect). Well I probably went into that too much but it's just a thought.

The trap thing is one of the greatest aspects of the show. On the surface its a gag for the character, but really it's an embodiment of Fred's life. Everyone is always leaving him (real parents/Daphne later on/the distance between him and his fake dad). He obsesses with traps to keep everything together. To hold onto what he finds nearest and dearest to him. It's great.

Even though I love Shaphne I'm glad it didn't happen in M.I., it wouldn't have been right for Shaggy to take Fred's girl.
