So I know everyone is excited about the 13 ghost and return to zombie island movies. But from the 13 ghosts movie it looks like they are returning to the real monsters format. This disappoints me because what makes Scooby-Doo unique and stand out from other shows is the fact that the monsters aren’t real and you have to guess who the villain is. I hope the future movies aren’t going back to real monsters. I hated the direction they took for the Goblin King and Samurai Swordsman. I was relieved with Abracadabra-Doo when they returned to the original formula. What do you guys think? Is the 13 ghost and return to zombie island a one time thing or is this how the movies will be from now on?

I am more worried that all of the future movies will be crossovers. I have not been a big fan of the new movies that are either crossovers, puppets, or Lego. I just want good movies like Abracadabra, Camp Scare, and Stage Fright. I'm okay if they mix it up with elements of real monsters and mysteries like Alien Invaders, Witch's Ghost, Zombie Island, and Cyber Chase. I'm just worried that in the future every movie will be a lackluster crossover with KISS, wrestlers, the Powerpuff Girls, or some other franchise that has nothing to do with Scooby and is just a cash grab

I wouldn't worry too much, the tone of the Scooby movies has ebbed and flowed over the years quite a bit and we've had several little "eras" where things are static (i.e. 1998-2001 era, WNSD 2004-2009 era, etc.). This could just be a temporary new "era" that they are doing for the 50th anniversary. Hopefully will the Guess Who series set to air in 2019, they will move beyond crossovers as well.

I would prefer if they did a mixture of both real and fake ghosts/monsters. I usually get bored when cartoons use the same plot and repetitiveness in every episode which is one of the reasons why I prefer the 1983-1985 series over the original format.

I enjoy crossover s where it makes sense like Josie and the Pussycats, Batman and Robin, and Speed Buggy. I don’t like them meeting real people in crossovers that don’t fit like Bobby Flay, KISS, and WWE

I think it all depends on how well these two new movies are received by fans and how much money they make. IF they do well then they might go back to making movies similar to 1998-2001 or go back to the crossovers style that we have seen the movies been like for the last few years if they fail. Like Doo said the Scooby Doo franchise get eras everytime a new series and movie comes out. Currently, we are in the more comedic and crossover era. The last few movies have been comedic and light-hearted in tone and usually revolve around the fact that the gang meet up with somebody famous. Even the new show has the same style.
I'm pretty confident that these new movies will do well as many fans that I've seen are ready to move on with the crossover and do something else. The only people who won't like these movie are gonna be people who feel that the sequel didn't live up to the original and didn't follow the story they wanted. I expect the next couple of movies to follow the same format as the new one and may very well have real ghost or monsters, but, I wouldn't expect this to last forever.

I like Scooby in both the real and fake monster formats, so no I'm not really worried about that. In fact i'd honestly say WB Animation's Scooby line in one of the franchises being produced out of Hollywood I feel the most secured in.

I'm also reminded of how after "Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" got such harsh criticism (the Nostalgia Critic even did a video about it shortly after it came out!), Warner Bros. Animation has so far not announced any upcoming Tom and Jerry direct-to-video movies. So at least they're wising up over THAT. But I remember how the sad thing was in 2015, Warner Bros. Animation actually put a lot more time and effort into the "Scooby-Doo and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery" movie than they did with "Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run." They should be giving the Looney Tunes more respect, as WBA created THEM, not Scooby-Doo. But at least the upcoming cartoonist-driven Looney Tunes shorts may change that.

The Nostalgia Critic doesn't even review exclusively bad movies anymore just whatever's being talked about online. If WB decided not to move forward with more Tom & Jerry movies, it's probably because of declining sales/interest from parents rather than what grown-up animation nerds online think

I wouldn't worry. They know that the "disguised villain" format is their bread-and-butter. Yes, Curse of the 13th Ghost and Return to Zombie Island will have real ghosts - because that was the premise of the original media that those movies are going to be based on.

As I'm also a bit worried about that possible new direction for Scooby Doo movies, I think it'll be overall good and natural for the franchise. Changes, new formats and then returning to its roots - that's how Scooby Doo franchise survived these five decades, so Scooby's future should be fine because of these two upcoming movies. The problem is just the matter of our personal tastes. I personally hope these two "supernatural" movies will be just the 50th Anniversary specials and then WB will go back to the current format in 2020 with King Arthur. If not, I hope King Arthur will be the part of Zombie Island universe...

We'll probably get a few years of a more darker in tone series and real supernatural villains for a couple years depending if these two movies do well, which I think they will, and after the do that idea for awhile, they'll go back to the original style of the series. The franchise has done that for years and is the reason why I think it's still going on to this day.

News on that potential 2018/9 Tom and Jerry is running dry everywhere i've looked. Which is strange on the ground that WB is still clearly happy with Tom and Jerry give the theatrical plan they hyped in Variety and the current tv show getting a new season order. Certain communities hammered the Willy Wonka movie so they might have pushed back whatever it is a little longer, as I doubt they just stop on something that was probably close to a year in the making already. Mind you some of those same areas complaining about the Tom and Jerry movies are the same that have no idea how the Scooby one is just as if not more popular. So I tend to agree with Jonathanmuddlemore it would take actual bad sales for one of these lines to stop entirely, internet whining from people not really buying the product anyway aren't as large a factor as they can pretend to be. And if it did that bad to cause that, i'm sure it would also affect Tom and Jerry's other areas in WB Animation which are still trending upward.
Of course there are two other possibilities we might want to suspect. 1. Whatever that next thing Tom and Jerry may crossover with could have a relevant anniversary in 2019 so it could have been delayed for that. 2. This is the period we expected a new status quo to emerge, if Tom and Jerry are going in a new direction (like away from crossovers) 2018 was a good place for a year off.

There are just two possible anniversary crossovers I can think of: Batman's 80th Anniversary and Scooby's 50th.
