As for the movies I have no clue how to fit those in. I think Boo Brothers, Ghoul School, and Werewolf are somewhere in the original HB era. But I'm not sure where since I know that the HB era ends with 13GSD.

It's an unsustained continuity, to grope for an admittedly oxymoronic term. 43 years is quite a long time to maintain a series like Scooby Doo, so changes in anything from character development to continuity was bound to happen, especially after Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera handed the franchise to Warner Bros. Animation. From 1984 to 1998, the gang presumably had gone their separate ways so we can assume they aged to college years by time Zombie Island came around.
But what became of the gang during that period? In 1984, we are told that Fred became a mystery novelist. In Zombie Island, he's Daphne's cameraman. In 1984, Velma had become an intern at NASA. In Zombie Island, she owns a bookstore. None of these elements had surfaced in either the ensuing series or the made-for-DVD movies since. Pretty much WB taking the characters in a different direction. If the Hanna-Barbera studio had made Zombie Island, who's to say they would have followed that line of thinking?
Mystery Incorporated could very well be a massive Twilight Zone diorama as it displaces the gang from Coolsville (their "hometown" since A Pup Named Scooby Doo) to Crystal Cove. Scooby's creators, Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, are still around, but they've been conspicuously quiet on all the changes that have been imposed on the series.

No, it wasn't quite what I had in mind, but here comes block o' cut & paste quoting: ...so there's like 3 continuities? (Original/Live Action/SD:MI) Sorry if that's a dumb question, I'm new to this franchise (as an adult anyway) and am trying to figure it all out. Not a dumb question, and it's answer is not something everyone here will agree on. To me, live action is definitely a unique continuity. "Mystery Inc" is a unique continuity (producers have stated such as well). "Get a clue" is a unique continuity. "Laff-a-lympics" is a unique continuity. "what's New" is a seperate continuity. Most of the rest of the scooby-doo animated series can tie together, but continuity is not strict. Some divide series that involve men in masks as separate from series that involve real ghosts and monsters. Again other members here will view it differently so ultimately it's up to you. I'm sure you'll find some pretty lengthy discussions & diatribes concerning opinions on continuity throughout the forum if looking for various view points. j3h in reply to the question "why seperate out what's new?": "The leap in time period, tech & general feel. The change in Fred's personality, and non-acknowledgement of classic cases when faced in a similar situation (loc ness for example). Once one is in the mentality to separate series out, it's easy to view "What's New" as a early 2000s modernized reboot. On the flip side, one viewing all as a single continuity will probably find the least amount of contradictions to exclude it." I don't know I think I could connect Pup to WNSD because in that one episode they had them flashback to kids. Technology is up to speed through the years. Um as for Fred's personality he did seem a little clueless in both of these series regardless. To make the quick answer, I can see pup named scooby as a prequel to either what's new or to classic where are you. I'm not all that concerned as to which or you can say its the single starting point to divergent paths. Man, all this continuity talk is starting to feel like Dr. Who. Even though this is a VERY similar thread to "which do you believe" and the other discussions which morphed into continuity discussions, I'm liking that this thread is clearly labeled as continuity for future discussion. I'm not locking any threads, but let's try to keep future continuity discussions here.

For some reason I think Daphne is older in 13 Ghosts then she was in Zombie Island. That's why I've had 2 seperate timelines going on. So I guess the movies shouldn't be combined with the series in the timelines.
As for mystery incorporated that it is it's own continuity as said from one of the directors right?

I'm not locking any threads, but let's try to keep future continuity discussions here. I don't think there's anything wrong with having continuity discussions on more than one thread.

The golf episode in WNSD with Shaggy had the same style as pup in the flashback. Yea that's why I made this continuity thread, so we didn't clog up the reviews and opinions to the recent live action material.

As for mystery incorporated that it is it's own continuity as said from one of the directors right? To copy and paste from the "Mystery Begins and Curse of the Lake Monster" thread from movies: When it comes to SDMI, the producers have said that it is on a separate continuity. However, I don't believe anything said behind the scenes can prove anything. I look at what has been said within the episodes for proof. There are things in the series that might suggest it is on a different continuity, but there are also things that could connect it with other shows in the franchise. Really, it is up to the viewer, and what they want to believe.

Didn't you just say you felt like you keep repeating yourself too? I figured you were more tired of it than me having it all over the place

Yea that's why I made this continuity thread, so we didn't clog up the reviews and opinions to the recent live action material and then keep repeating ourselves when somebody makes a new thread on the idea of a continuity. You can say it here once and be done with repeating yourself.

I honestly am not recalling Velma going to a different school, but if someone can state the episode that is the source of this, I'm curious to check it out. But regardless, she could have transferred to another school by the time they are in whatever grade in classic Where are You if you want to make a linear connection case.

But didn't Velma say she went to another school in the original series as opposed to What's new? It was in an episode of The New Scooby Doo Movies. I believe she said "my old school" or something like that while they were going there. Maybe she just went there for one year and moved. Maybe she went to two different schools. (She is smart.) Maybe there is more than one school in the gang's hometown. Who knows? But how would that be contradicting What's New SD?

I'm not sure which episode it was but it was a Scooby Movie (the ones where they meet those movie stars like Don Knotts) and Velma said something like "My old Alma Mater"

When it comes into play in another topic is fine. I just don't want to be continuing the exact same conversation in the "what do you believe thread"...that thread was pretty much discussing exactly the same as this except in the long run, this thread is better titled since it is easier to spot and immediately understand what is in it from the index.
