There are three different stories that try to provide an explanation to the gang coming together. Because all three of them directly contradict each other, only one of them can be true. What story do you think is true?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood. Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, and Fred may have been friends for a while, but they didn't get Scooby until they were teenagers as suggested by this movie.
The Scene:
Daphne: "Oh, poor Scooby."
Fred: "Poor us. Without Scooby, we haven't got a show Daphne."
Velma picks up an album that says "SCOOBYS BABY BOOK".
Velma: "He use to be so cute. Ya 'member the first time we saw him, at Grillo's Pet Store?"
A flashback is shown of the four of them, as teenagers, getting Scooby at the store.
Flashback:
Daphne: "Oh, look at this one. Isn't he adorable?" (looking at a white dog)
Shaggy: "Yeah, like he's cute. But he lacks character."
Scooby: "Character?"
Fred: "Well, what about this one Shaggy? He's got character." (looking at Scooby)
Shaggy: "Yeah, like too much character."
Velma: "Ahh, I think he's wonderful."
End of flashback.
Fred: "But, we took him anyway."
Velma: "And look at this one, Scooby's first birthday party."
Another flashback is shown.

2. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and flashbacks. All five members of the gang have been together since they were very young as suggested by this series, and some flashbacks.
Here is a flashback with just Shaggy and Scooby:
-In “The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries” episode “Happy Birthday, Scooby Doo” Scooby is on a TV show called “Here is Your Life, Scooby-Doo” to celebrate his birthday. When it’s time to look back at Scooby’s childhood, they do. Shaggy says “That’s right Scooby. Think back to the good old days, way back when we were kids.” Then a video comes up on a monitor. It shows Shaggy and Scooby together as babies and shows the first babysitter they ever had. The babysitter looks to be a monster. After the video Shaggy says “Let’s face it Scoob, we had a monstrous childhood.”.
-This isn't really a flashback, but in “The New Scooby-Doo Movies” episode “The Loch Ness Mess” the gang visits Shaggy’s Uncle Nat. In the episode, Shaggy and Scooby take “a nice walk around the house” after Shaggy thinks it will calm Scooby’s nerves. Anyway, in one room, where there are old pictures and things, Shaggy finds an old family album. There is a picture of Shaggy from when he was 3 years old and another picture of Scooby showing him at 3 months old. Before Shaggy found the picture of Scooby, he said to Scooby: “There may be a picture of you in here.”. Even though they are not in the same picture, this suggests Scooby has been with the family , since there is a picture of him in an "old family album".
Also, there have been so many family members of Scooby's shown. Some of them are owned by Shaggy's family members. That would also suggest Scooby and Shaggy always have been together.
Here are some flashbacks with the whole gang:
-In the "What's New Scooby-Doo?" episode "A Scooby-Doo Valentine", Shaggy and Scooby run into their ex-girlfriends, Rachel and Roxanne at Lovers' Lane. A flashback of a young Shaggy and Scooby is shown revealing how they broke up. Shaggy may be in his early teenage years. In the flashback, Shaggy says to Rachel "See Scoob and I are going on the road and the road's no place for a long distance relationship. I hope we can still be friends." Then Rachel yells: "Get out! We never want to see you again!".
-In one of the "Scooby Doo Behind the Scences" clips, it is revealed how the gang started off. They didn't have the Mystery Machine then, so, according to Daphne, they gave their parents gas money to drive them around. A flashback of their first car pool is shown with the gang looking to be in their preteen years.
-In “What’s New Scooby-Doo?” episode “A Terrifying Round With A Menacing Metallic Clown” after Velma gets scared of a clown, a flashback is shown telling why she has a fear of clowns. The flashback shows all five members of the gang together at Velma’s fifth birthday party. They look similar to how they looked in “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” in the flashback.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. The Mystery Begins and Curse of the Lake Monster. The gang all met each other for the first time as teenagers as suggested by these two movies.
