"Warner Bros. and WWE Studios today announced they will co-produce a Scooby-Doo animated feature that will find Scooby and the gang solving a mystery at WrestleMania. WWE Superstars and Divas including Triple H, John Cena, Kane, The Miz, Brodus Clay, Santino Marella, Sin Cara and AJ Lee will appear in animated form and lend their voices to the project. WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon will also lend his voice and appear in animated form. When Shaggy and Scooby win tickets to WrestleMania, the entire gang travels in the Mystery Machine to WWE City to attend the epic event. However, when a mysterious ghostly bear appears and threatens to ruin the show, Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred work with WWE Superstars to solve the case. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will handle worldwide distribution on Blu-ray, DVD, VOD and digital download. The film will be produced by Warner Bros. Animation. WWE will utilize its extensive global reach through its television, digital media and print assets to market the release of the film." Moving my comments over here to the new thread:
Something that bothers me about this business arrangement is why they're partnering with another industry like this? Is it for creative reasons, or is it because they're losing money on Direct-To-Video releases in general...hence the closure of Warner Premiere we just read about...and are therefore seeking promotional dollars from outside industries in return for featuring said industry and inserting its 'stars' into their movies? That kind of thing helps offset costs, but usually results in movies that aren't all that great. I mean, pro-wrestlers helping the gang solve a mystery?
This phrase was telling: "WWE will utilize its extensive global reach through its television, digital media and print assets to market the release of the film."
I mean, will all future Scooby movies feature some sort of 'corporate sponsorship' now? I hope not.
Maybe it's just a one-off, but the entertainment industry is looking all over for new ways to supplement the income they're losing from free downloading, and something about this just sounds more like a way to get 'advertising' dollars from Wrestlemaina than just a new setting for a Scooby movie.

The WNSD episode which involved wrestling was quite good so it could work, but it will depend on who calls the shots on the storyline, if it's WWE then IMO it's Scooby Doo in Epic Fail.

...but it will depend on who calls the shots on the storyline, if it's WWE then IMO it's Scooby Doo in Epic Fail. That's my concern as well. Since the WWE is co-funding this, I'm sure they'll expect a good deal of screen time for their characters. One of the articles said that WWE was hoping to influence young viewers to get into pro-wrestling at an earlier age, so it sounds like they want to use Scooby as a vehicle to promote WWE. To me, that suggests that promotional concerns might override storyline and creative concerns. Which I don't like at all. It's one thing to have a cameo or co-stars, but this is quite different from anything they've done before. My bigger concern though is that this will be the wave of the future. Maybe the next movie will be co-produced by NASCAR and feature a bunch of racers helping the gang stop the ghost of a rodeo clown. Mark

I'm sure the movie will turn out to be great and that we won't even be able to tell WWE is co-producing it. I'm sure it will be just like these latest movies (Abracadabra Doo, etc.) have been.

Doo posted this on the other thread, but I felt the need to post it here. I hope it doesn't offend you Doo. Doo: " "Scooby Doo and WWE" is the top search of the day on Yahoo, so they made an article about it in their "entertainment" section, saying some more stuff about the movie.
I would not suggest reading the "user comments" section in the article, the users say some mean things about Scooby . "

Here is a link to that: movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/scooby-doo-joins-forces-wwe-animated-film-220136514.html?ugccmtnav=v1%2Fcomments%2Fcontext%2F8ae1fab3-a35d-3444-8a93-2494894932b5%2Fcomments%3Fcount%3D20%26sortBy%3Dlatest I did read the user comments, all of them.. Here are some: " Scooby, like many other characters of the day, died when they were converted to computer generated images. Doesn't even look like the dog." I'm sorry, but when did Scooby die? The franchise seems to be going strong to me. " i think its about time to stop making scooby doo. not because im hating on scooby or anything, but they are killing what use to be my favorite kids show to watch" I think this person has probably not watched the show in a while. I don't think they are killing the franchise. I'm sure it will be a good movie. " Am I the only person who thinks this is the perfect match for Scooby Doo? The show was rife with all kinds of stupid crossovers. Was there any reason for the Harlem Globetrotters to be on Scooby Doo? No, but they were. The show had the Muppet Babies and Batman on different episodes, for chrissakes." I'm pretty sure the Muppet Babies were never on Scooby-Doo. " If you're going to do a Scooby Doo ghost story with wrestlers shouldn't the Undertaker fit in there somewhere?" I just copied and pasted that comment because it had 16 thumbs up.

It is a big risk for the franchise, I'm not sure just how big WWE is outside of the US.

It is a big risk for the franchise, I'm not sure just how big WWE is outside of the US. WWE is seen in like 60 countries. Just this month they travelled to China and Taiwan. They travel all over europe atleast once or twice a year. They go to Canada often. They are the biggest company worldwide. This is a dream come true for me. I have been a wrestling fan since 1997. Over half my life. I have never seen a bad wrestling related Scooby Doo. I do have to admit that WB is trying to ruin the scooby doo franchise though. Satanic emblems in SDMI, taking a year off, putting it on in the middle of the da, no replays, get a clue series, etc.

You say WWF to me and I think of the World Wildlife Fund not wrestling. WWE/WWF is shown in the UK, mostly on subscription sports channels, it's not prime time here. If they are using this simply as a way of pushing their franchise then my prediction is it will be dire and to people who neither know nor care much about wrestling it will be utterly baffling. I'm more than happy to be wrong but I am not optimistic. Not sure what you mean by biggest company.
