On the original topic, part of it is also just things changing with time. I'm probably younger than most people on here, so it might change my view a bit since I didn't totally grow up with the old versions of Scooby Doo, but I really like SD:MI (as well as newer movies and SDWAY?) because it's a style I prefer more. As much as I appreciate the much older series, I really dislike the animation and the older versions of the characters just seem more bland to me. Since I think that way, I'm not really driven to discuss the older ones much. Some people might have the same opinion as me (though most people probably disagree), so that could be part of it.
Not only that, but as previously stated, SD:MI is what's happening now. It's not surprising that an active series would get more attention than finished ones. That happens all the time.

Some interesting observations. For the most part, I like almost all the different animation styles that have been used. Each seemed to fit the particular take on Scooby that they were designed for, and the style of story they were telling.
One thing I do like about the early animation is the darker color scheme. I personally think darker colors work better for a show that's supposed to have a spooky, creepy theme. SD:MI has done a really good job though of using brighter colors that still convey a spooky 'nighttime' feel, even in their daytime sequences actually. I think it's partly the way they include some darker shading around the edges. They've created some really nice backgrounds and 'location' imagery.
However by contrast, I often felt WNSD? was too 'happy' looking at times. I liked the stories, but sometimes thought the strong bright colors seemed to counter the spooky feel the show would presumably be trying to invoke. Like in a graveyard scene for example. It was really nice to look at and pretty cool looking, just not all that creepy or scary at times. But that just may be me.

I completely get what you are saying about What's new, and you are right. Also at times it felt that it was more important to the show to showcase "hey, we're in modern times! No longer trapped in the '60's sensibilities" over "spooky mystery"...that might contribute to that "happy" look as well.

I think I actually prefer the 'dark-around-the-edges' tone the most- it kinda shows how SD:MI seems as light as all the others superficially, but there's an underlying, darker plot that's never really been done in a Scooby Doo series before. In a way, it kinda reminds me of Zombie Island.
And as for WNSD?, that series was a lighter one as a whole. No real underlying plot, lots of comedic relief... a darker feel just wouldn't have worked. The animation was still really well done, it just had a different vibe to it like every series does.

It's great to get different perspectives from different age groups. I like that we all have different opinions. If we all felt the same way, we wouldn't have much to talk about on the forum. One person would post something and everyone else would just say they agree and there would be no discussion.

Mark It is amazing how the colors they use can set the tone and feel of the entire show. SDMI would be completely different if they used lighter colors for the whole show. The darker colors make the villains scarier too.
