Hi Guys!
Wow, the feedback on my post has been really informative. To correct myself, it was never explicitly stated that Velma was a lesbian, and because of WB's president, she could be seen more reliably bisexual, but as someone else said, it's more of an issue regarding media perception and putting people into boxes. This was actually really informative and helped me fix my point of view on the characterization. Given past canon love interests, Velma's been paired with mostly guys, but if we take Mystery Incorporated's Marcie Fleach, or Hot Dog Water into account, with their more subtextual than anything attraction to one another, and Trick or Treat's Coco Diablo, with Velma's very obvious attraction to her (I thought the fogged up glasses was a cute touch, but that's just me) Personally, I thought the whole thing was handled very well in the movie, but, by someone else's account, the media immediately jumping on it and their representation of it was unlike what the movie wanted to convey with their lowkey and non-labelling of Velma. It's definitely an issue of modern media and their habit of shoving things into boxes, but it could also be seen as an issue regarding the public's perception of it. (I also had no idea the current president is a trump supporter???)
All in all, this was really informative and helped me change some of my paper! Thanks for educating me on these issues, and allowing me to learn from it!
Thanks, Hazard
