Just a quick overview of details that came out of the new trailer:
- Norville (that appears to be the main name Shaggy's going by in the series) is working on what appears to be an anti-drug article, possibly for a school newspaper (if he's the editor, then that probably has plot relevance since there would be coverage of the dead body in said newspaper). Velma then barges in to talk/yell at him (this may be her enlisting his help after a body is found in her locker).
- Velma has a Creeper mask and a book called History of Fog on her shelf. This may be alluding to the 1980 film "The Fog." She appears to have stopped playing the flute.
- Her corkboard has a lot of relevant info. "Candy Man" is written on a sticky note, and there's a good chance they'll be the first main villain (or maybe a big bad). Candy could be referring to drugs, which Norville thinks are connected to the body in the locker. Velma's mom, Diya Dinkley, appears to be missing (which will probably be an overarching plot point). There's also a circled yearbook student photo, a picture of a van at a location on the town map, and a picture of the outside of the Crystal Mines. She also seems to have a stalker-ish fixation on Fred [edit: so her having Fred's house circled on the map is actually because that was the last place her Mom's cell phone had GPS pinged].
- Velma is a suspect in the de-braining of a classmate found in her locker, which will serve as her call to action to start solving mysteries with the gang. Also, the skull of the dead girl appears to have been opened cleanly with a bone cutter, coroner-style.
- Norville being familiar with the town's drug market appears to further the plot in some way [edit: this no longer seems to be the case].
