Wow... We've finally come to the movies mining the comics for story ideas.
And it's not "The Dragon's Eye", easily the best Scooby-Doo mystery EVER. It's not "Scooby Apocalypse", which would be super sick. It's not even interesting comic stories like the Gang teaming up with that teen spy for a global adventure. Or when they went to a horror convention as panelists because they're celebrities. It's not even one of the several times they meet those Addams Family rip-offs, the Ghastleys.
No, it's the one random issue where it's revealed that all of Mystery Inc.'s foes bought their costumes from the same person. Because that would logistically make sense for over a thousand criminals to have purchased their extremely different, creative and sometimes downright technologically impossible costumes, from a one-woman business.
Also, why is Daphne's aunt in jail? I get Sarah Jenkins, she almost killed the Gang with Charlie the Robot, even if they didn't press charges, their parents (including Shaggy's cop dad) most certainly would. But Daphne's aunt was framed as the cat person and was exonerated by the Gang.
And why are the villains Victorian Ghost versions of Mystery Inc.? Are we getting the Multiverse with the Scroogey Doo variants? Are we going down the Mystery Incorporated road and the classic timeline's been full of mystery solving teams throughout time as well?
I wish Scooby-Doo movies were good again. The last good Scooby movie was Gourmet Ghost. I can't even remember the last time a Scooby movie was AMAZING. Probably Camp Scare.

The whole victorian motif the ghost versions of the gang have seems like a odd choice but maybe it might be explained when the movie comes out

Animation still looks like its been done on a shoestring budget, not looking good.

*spoilers*
I really enjoyed this film. The randomness of the last 20 minutes particularly worked for me, particularly with the surprises of Escobar being able to talk, Trevor being a surfer dude, and the authentic weirdness of the film ending with the gang nervously laughing as they throw dollar bills down a well.
The villains were solid and I thought the doppelganger aspect worked well here. I'm not usually the biggest fan of the "heroes team up with old foe" storylines, but this one worked. It was done in a way that was not overly predictable. I don't really consider it official continuity now that all these costumes were made by Coco, since that seems a bit of a stretch given all the adventures they've had, but this is still really enjoyable as a standalone film.
I liked the humor for the most part in this film. The wittiness of some of it was fun, like that "no more ghouls and ghosts. Just helpin' folks!" line in the intro and Fred's comment "Hey Mr. Wickles! What a night for a knight!" The only jokes I didn't find funny were the gross snot gag with Trevor, and Scooby's fourth-wall breaking remark about how the franchise is named after him. I don't enjoy bodily function jokes, and the fourth-wall breaking felt kind of cringey tbh.
I didn't find the Daphne leader plot necessary. I guess it's a good message for kids about how a leader listens to ideas and lifts others up, but it felt a bit forced in, just in the sense that it was barely developed. It was mentioned towards the beginning and then they just dropped the plot entirely until the end, and it's over immediately after Fred and Daphne have a short exchange. I think the plot point had potential, but it needed more than just a couple random mentions that felt unconnected to the rest of the plot.
As for the Velma sexuality stuff, I thought it worked well here and was done in a natural way. I'm avoiding all the negative comment places, but I'm sure this will lead to some backlash about how "OMG they made Velma a lesbian for no reason!" The film does not ever state she is specifically a lesbian...she could also be bisexual or pansexual, depending on whether the male love interests she'd had in the past counted (unless she realized she was not into men like some people have speculated with her failed relationship with Shaggy in SDMI).
Overall, the quirkiness of this film was really what made it shine. I enjoyed this film and will be satisfied if it's the only Scooby film/series we get this year.

The whole movie was such a fun romp! Definitely more enjoyable than "Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo." And the animation was a lot more bouncy and fluid, thanks to Snipple Animation (similar to their episodes of "Scooby-Doo and Guess Who", or on "Looney Tunes Cartoons" and the "Animaniacs" revival). The animation looks more limited in the trailer; I suspect what was shown there was from a work-in-progress print. During the trick-or-treating scene when Shaggy and Scooby were dressed as each other, when they got stuck on the caramel house I figured out right away it had to be a dream. I also figured the Mystery Inc.-esque ghosts were really robots, due to the way they were floating around, and because of Rudy being a dog skeleton; very hard to make a costume of a dog skeleton to hide a human or animal inside. And they couldn't be holograms because they made physical contact with the environment and other characters. As for Velma being into women, I didn't mind too much, because of how they also did it in "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated". I wonder if the writers looked at some of the older (cira 1990s) Scooby-Doo comics for inspiration? Issue #9 of DC's "Scooby-Doo" comics had a story where the gang investigates the costume company where the crooks got their disguises from, and Issue #27 of Archie Comics's "Scooby-Doo" series had a story with an evil Scooby-lookalike ghost dressed in a cape and top hat that is later revealed to be a robot. (He even says one of Rudy's lines: "Scooby-Doo, I've come for you!") But regarding that, it was fun to see the gang learning the source of their crooks' costumes, and Coco Diablo was such a fun character. I also enjoyed seeing all the old villain costumes and the culprits in Coolsville's prison; it was fun trying to recognize them. But why was Sarah Jenkins there? She wasn't doing anything illegal in "Foul Play in Funland"... I was surprised to hear the "Ballroom Blitz" song played during the library chase scene. It's a real glam rock song from the 70s that I've heard a few times at my workplace. I know I'm probably now going to be watching this every Halloween season!

He was never arrested, and in fact, the monsters in the castle liked that he tried to scare them. I didn't realize "Ballroom Blitz" was a real song outside of this movie. That's super neat!

So my stream cut off after Trevor turned into a surfer dude somehow? Honestly, a really fun movie. Weird characterization from Fred (weird but not unwelcome), didn't like how they rehashed the Monsters Unleashed plot for Daphne. As much as it contradicts any kind of continuity, it was still cute despite me initially being against it for the continuity errors.
Since this is presumably in the main timeline, it's safe to assume Velma's a bisexual with a thing for culprits (Windsor in Phantosaur and now Coco in this, not to mention Ben Ravencroft in Witch's Ghost and Prince Omar in Where's My Mummy). I really don't mind them experimenting with her sexuality, as long as they have the balls to do it for the other members. I'd love to see Fred have a boyfriend. Then again, Velma's always been the one with the most speculation about her sexuality.
Fred in this movie was weird. He wasn't obsessed with the Mystery Machine as seen by how he didn't go to pieces over it. I'm actually super ok with that. And he also was kind of into himself, with the whole checking himself out in reflections and calling himself the whole package. I mean, he's not wrong, he's a snack, but it did seem a bit pulled from Scooby-Doo 2002.
I'm so glad the Misery Company was explained. So assuming that the Warden did not make up Nefario and the Misery Company, then even in main continuity, there's always been groups of four people and an animal keeping the world in balance. Also, I love that despite being robots, they took the time to play cards. And just to be clear, Shaggy and Scooby were under the impression that THEY FED PEOPLE TO GATORS? That's super dark. Also, how did those gators survive for a year?
Lastly, Sarah Jenkins endangered minors with Charlie the Haunted Robot (who apparently was designed by Coco and not Mr. Jenkins? Huh?), and Shaggy's dad is a COP while Daphne is an HEIRESS. She would most certainly have gotten in deep legal trouble.

Just watched yesterday and I have to admit it was not as bad as I thought. I still like the former animation better, but this wasn’t bad either. Velma being bisexual doesn’t bother me, although sometimes seemed a bit forced. The soundtrack was enjoyable and Coco Diablo was a side character with personality. Speaking of personality, I felt like the gang didn’t have any personality. They had such a weird vibe. I think, if they added more interaction between the gang it would have been the best movie of the last years. I really miss the old late 90s and early 2010s movies, the last movies aren’t as dark and great like zombie island, witch’s ghost or camp scare.
Overall it was a good movie, but not in my top 10. This movie had much more potential. I hope this is just a first step towards better movies in the future.

Saw this the other night. Thought it was mostly good, liked the tone, mystery was good, and it was a pretty enjoyable and fun movie that didn't drag anywhere. Main criticisms are some moments were animated a bit too cartoony compared to what they usually do in the franchise, and while they handled Velma's crush itself great and didn't make a big fuss over her being lesbian or bi, it just felt wrong she should be crushing on a known criminal like that. I don't know, just felt like her first female crush on screen shouldn't be someone who had talked about having the gang offed earlier in the film. Maybe I'm making a bigger deal out of it than it is, but just didn't sit right with me her love interest was a villain. But small potatoes, at least the crush was cute and well handled story-wise even if the target of affection was problematic with the whole criminal thing. Still liked the last Halloween outing better but overall this was fun.
