I saw the news on Facebook earlier this evening. It turns out that one half of the Ruby-Spears team is no longer with us.
Ruby, along with Ken Spears, also created "Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels" and several other Hanna-Barbera programs.
Among the Ruby-Spears productions, "Mister T" and the "Punky Brewster" cartoon are my all-time favorites.
Sad loss in the world of cartoons.

What I appreciated about Joe (and Ken) is that American animation is filled with so many blowhard auteurs that will drone on about themselves to whoever will listen. Joe always seemed like a humble and normal dude in comparison. Him and Ken never sought out the spotlight, and I'm not sure if they even liked Scooby all that much. The two certainly didn't market themselves off Scooby like most people would if they were in the same position.

A legend in the field who gave us memorable characters we still love today. Rest in peace.
