OK, I'm sure we already know that Russi Taylor died back in July, and that she had voiced Martin Prince, Sherri and Terri on "The Simpsons," right? Well, it turns out Grey DeLisle-Griffin, Daphne's voice since 2001, will be taking over Russi's characters on the show!

More work for Grey is good. Though I guess The Simpsons writers don't think Russi Taylor deserves the same respect as Phil Hartman and Marcia Wallace.

Wow, interesting! Thanks for sharing! I'm curious if anyone else that watches has this opinion...and keep in mind I'm typically a purist with keeping voice actors the same...but does anyone think Julie Kavner should be replaced as Marge's voice actor? Her voice just seems so raspy now that it's genuinely difficult to listen to Marge.

Wouldn't be surprised to find out she's being held hostage too.

I'm all for keeping the original voice actors, but her voice has made it unpleasant to listen to Marge and made me dislike the character a bit, which is unfortunate. I didn't find Kasem's SDMI dialogue quite as bad as Kavner's recent Marge, maybe because Kasem voiced Shaggy's dad who looked a bit older so the voice fit more. I suppose they can't just kick her out after 31+ years, but I hope she is replaced or retires at some point soon.

Doo and Jonathan, I absolutely agree with you two on that; it's one reason I don't watch newer episodes much because it's just sad and unpleasant to hear how Marge sounds nowadays, and to me it sounds like Kavner's straining herself just doing the voice. I feel they need to give Julie a well-deserved retirement because she definitely doesn't sound the same anymore.
As for the main topic, I'm surprised they didn't retire Taylor's characters on the show after her passing; that seemed the more respectful route, in my opinion, but I am happy that Grey's getting more work. Being on The Simpsons will definitely give her a career boost.

She sounds like she's dying. It's like all of Kasem's dialogue in Mystery Incorporated. Wouldn't be surprised to find out she's being held hostage too. Yeah, but the trouble is that FOX likes to waste money by renewing the show for more seasons, despite the ratings being pretty bad in most cases. It's like a string of box-office bombs. And yeah, Marge especially sounds bad when she's upset; she goes from sounding like a 36-year-old to an 86-year-old! I also remember in the 2000s Scooby-Doo stuff, Casey Kasem's Shaggy voice often sounded like a tired old Shaggy. Then there's also the abundance of Tress MacNeille. She's been in EVERY episode since 1999, voicing recurring/minor characters and MANY one-offs, and nowadays all the one-offs generally have the exact same voice. It's like when "Family Guy" joked about Seth MacFarlane giving Dr. Hartman and Carter Pewterschmidt identical voices, except here it's not a joke!

kaesem in the 2000s was clearly getting old, most actors cant sound the same in their 70s and 80s as they did when they were younger. Frank Welker being an exception, his Fred still sounds the same.

Anyone else think Frank's Scooby sounds much older than he did during What's New and Get a Clue? It's weird because as you pointed out, his Fred still sounds the same.

No I agree his Scooby sounds old, granted he doesn't do much with Scooby anyway

I wonder if she'll be the new voice actress for Minnie Mouse as well.

Tress MacNeille's voice has always been annoying. I can't understand how someone with a voice that shrill is still able to find voice work. Same thing with Rob Paulson and Charlie Adler. Those three are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to voice actors.

I like Tress' voices. Between Babs in Tiny Toons and Dot in Anamaniacs, her voice was part of my formative years as a cartoon lover

I'm sick of the Simpsons, It's a damn corpse at this point. I might watch it to see how good she is in that role, but I don't want to sit through 25 minutes of bad writing and unfunny jokes. Yeah, I only watch new episodes if the plot interests me. I only watched the beginning of Grey's debut episode, "Marge the Lumberjill," to hear how her Sherri, Terri and Martin voices sounded, and I did find the school pageant scene amusing (especially their parody of "The Masked Singer," a reality show I am sure Fred Jones would love.) Her Sherri and Terri were great from the start, but her Martin was a little off at first. But then when I heard her again in a later episode this season ("Bart the Bad Guy"), Grey's Martin voice has gotten so much better. Another thing that's gone downhill about the show is the animation quality. Besides the annoying jarring shifts between Flash and traditional hand-drawn animation in the HD intro, the actual episodes look a lot like those 80s Hanna-Barbera cartoons that were digitally colored and composited using H-B's computer system of the time (like "Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf", certain episodes of "The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries" and "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo," and "Arabian Nights.") It's especially obvious with moving vehicles and backgrounds (amazing they don't just use CG vehicles and backgrounds all the time, the way "Family Guy" does.)

This season has been really hit or miss for me, honestly. It's had some of the worst episodes of the series, IMO. "Livin' la Pura Vida" was painful to sit through and nothing made me laugh in that episode. "Gorillas on the Mast" was close, just by being very forgettable and jokes seeming forced. On the flip side, episodes like "Thanksgiving of Horror," "The Miseducation of Lisa Simpson" and especially "The Winter of Our Monetized Content" were all excellent, the latter of which I'd say was one of the best episodes in recent years.
