I would respectfully recommend just trusting your gut and developing the Scooby Doo show you'd like to see. You'll find some Scooby fans will love it, some will hate it, others will be in the middle. There will be no consensus. The four or five people who tell you what monsters THEY would like to see may not hold the same opinions as the millions of Scooby fans who are not on this forum. Everyone has very different, subjective opinions about SD, so you're probably better off not soliciting advice beforehand directly from the fandom as much as researching what's come before and reading the various threads on the different series, movies and approaches to Scooby Doo and absorbing the passionate and occasionally silly debates about what works for some people and what doesn't. In the end, you'll still, hopefully, do whatever YOU want. What monsters do YOU want to see? What jokes? That's really all that matters. WB is very protective of their big franchise properties, so what THEY want will most likely end up being your biggest concern. Be bold, be original, be respectful, just go for it and courageously add your voice to the ever-expanding and evolving Scoobyverse. Break legs on your project. I hope it's a huge success.

Cool! When I watched Stranger Things, I thought "this is perfect on Scooby's alley!". I already imagined Fred is like Steve LOL. It's nice also you cited OTGW, love the haunting vibe off it. It's great you looked it up. I can probably see intelligent, dark Scooby series written on the promos 😁.
Since you're saying that this is a live action tv series, I know definitely a romance plot will happen. I support it. Just DON'T make it like in Mystery Inc. where the Bechdel test practically failed and in Scooby Apocalypse where Fred is madly in love with Daphne.
Off the head suggestions: - For characters, just look at Be Cool. Echoing Scoobydoobus first sentence - Gang's retort at Fred being the leader is always fun ("when did you get to be the leader?" -mystery begins, "aww, Fred thinks we listen to him!" -be cool) - Personally I didn't like the alien stuff on MI because it sounded lazy and ridiculous. If you give a reasonable way that Scooby talks, I'll commend you. - Care to add the Hex Girls? Maybe just put them in background as easter egg?
Nothing more to add, looks like everything has been said here. Good luck Mr. Sam Carter!

...as long as you remain logical, persuasive, tactful, and respectful. Emmm this is the internet, but as you've asked so nicely ...Your input is greatly appreciated. I have ordered copies of Scooby Apocalypse volumes 1 and 2 and the first issues of the comic SDWAY, added X-Files and Legend of the Phantosaur to my watchlist, decided to keep easter eggs and references to a minimum for aesthetic purposes, decided to wait on executing certain plot twists until later in the season, decided to reengineer the show's pace for more buildup, and have decided to make Daphne a more intelligent sleuth, all because of your suggestions. You have also inspired me to make Scooby Doo a more central figure with a clear purpose. As for the "Mystery Machine" logo, it does not make sense for the words to be on the van until later in season 1. It will be a good reveal. The rest of the van's paint job will be the same. It's a van that becomes a Mystery Machine. It undergoes character development as if it were a character itself. The relationships between the characters have always been there, ever since SDWAY. They were downplayed since it was more of a kids show. Also, if I don't include romance somewhere in my scripts, no matter how well-written they are, they will be shot down by studio/network executives . . . or worse, the love subplots will be added in by other writers during the many draft revisions. The best thing I can do is handle it with grace and creativity in a way that doesn't hinder the group dynamic. Plus, it services the story to add that dynamic. What I would like to know is if there are any dialogue lines, character moments, plot points, or jokes you would like to see in the show. Any favorite characters? Which villains would you like to see? Any original villain or story ideas? I really would ask you to reconsider relationships; it has been done to death in the DTVs with the Fred/Daphne jealousy thing while the SD:MI relationships were just nasty and dysfunctional but above all because it is divisive to the fandom. I have been a long-time Shaggy/Velma fan, but many aren't, so if your have that in the show it will alienate them; I wound't object to Fred and Velma, but many would. You will have to pick which section of the fanbase you want to annoy with this and ignore the subsequent torch and pitchfork waving mob that appears outside your office. To make everyone's life easier just leave explicit (not in the adult sense of the word) relationships out, or buy shares in a pitchfork company. If you cast your net wide enough you will find a pink Mystery machine (Golden Key comics I think) so the first draft of the Mystery Machine could be pink which they all reject and go for the 'standard' colour, A very in-joke that will be got by about 10 people. Talk to someone who has very bad eyesight, why. well because Velma will have those mannerisms. Velma has thick frames, well you will pick these for technical reasons (reduced internal reflection and you can find the damn things again after you have put them down), they life their glasses to see things close up, why well because their close-up vision is better without glasses. Little details but adds to the realism, I have Velma-level bad eyesight so I know. As for the other things we have the usual catch-phrases, Velma loosing her glasses, Daphne always being on-point with fashion and using that knowledge to help with solving mysteries. We have Fred and Velma, the Mulder and Scully of Mystery Incorporated, show them earning that we get hints of how they do their mystery solving so expand on that.

By the way, your ideas and plots are really interesting. I hope your project come true soon. Good luck!

- For characters, just look at Be Cool. Echoing Scoobydoobus first sentence Funny enough I would have said don't look at Be Cool for the gang's characters, What's New Scooby Doo would have been my recommendation for a reference. NOt that we're proving JCB's point or anything. Other things, cameos from Madelyn Dinkley (Velma's sister in Abracadabra Doo), Hot Dog Water from SD:MI and the Hex Girls would be welcome. Stepping back from the specif things, what would I want from such a show. 1. Coherence - there is a reason why things are happening, why the gang is together. Perhaps even a backstory that brings them. 2. Continuity - what happens in the van, stays in the van. And need to be cleared up in the next episode or it's gonna start to smell. 3. Compassion - treat the gang with compassion, don't make them a bunch of dysfunctional misfits just because it will create 'drama' and 'tension'. Make them positive role models for their archetypes 4. Cunning - they are mystery solves, show and play up to their cunning. 5. Cupcakes - cupcakes are nice, let them eat cupcakes from time-to-time. As an aside is there going to be a Malt Shop style hangout for them?

Hello Scooby Doo fans,
I am a screenwriter based out of Los Angeles. I currently have 7 writing credits, and have enjoyed working on Ed is a Portal and Good Grief Suicide Hotline.
As a screenwriter, it is necessary to have several television show pitches on hand whenever visiting studio/network executives. I have always been a huge Scooby Doo fan, and Mystery Incorporated is one of my favorite shows. Scooby Doo is pretty hot right now, what with the new show and two theatrical movies on the horizon.
I would love to write a live-action Scooby Doo television series. I know of one other screenwriter who would be willing to partner with me.
Currently, Warner Bros. and Hulu have an amenable partnership. I am toying with the idea of a Stranger Things-esque mini-series, 8 or 13 episodes long. Stephen King is a huge inspiration to me.
I wanted to interact with fellow Scooby Doo fans, and see what you would like to see in a Scooby Doo show. Any suggestions? Guidelines? Ideas? -Sam Carter This is so exciting and I think that a GOOD Scooby Doo live action could be a phenomenon. I am in college and every single one of my friends loves Scooby Doo from childhood. What made the original series so great was it was generally scary. It also was really funny. I could imagine Scooby Doo as almost a Psych meets horror. If you made the atmospheres generally scary and creepy with relatable and funny characters it would be a hit. All of the prized young adult demographic would tune in as we all grew up in the late 90s early 2000s with the live action movies, Zombie Island, and Whats New Scooby Doo. Every friend I have is nostalgic towards Scooby. So if you made an adult Scooby Doo that had the spirit of the original, WNSD, and Zombie Island it would be awesome

Hi Sam Carter, welcome to the forum! Great to have you here! I personally love "Stranger Things" so I'm really looking forward to what you come up with. Going off of what some others on this thread have already mentioned, I would suggest trying to echo the strong, character-driven plots we saw in BCSD. Seeing as you already have relationships planned, I'd just probably caution against throwing the relationships in the audience's faces and/or forcing a relationship which clearly doesn't work (i.e. Shaggy and Velma in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated). I may be a bit biased here, but I personally have always enjoyed "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" in the sense that it shows the gang as adults and uses a more dark, ominous plot which would probably fit well with the "Stranger Things" vibe you're going for. I would highly suggest watching the film as an inspiration, as quite frankly, I don't think I've ever met a fan who didn't like Zombie Island in my almost ten years chatting with people in the Scooby fandom. I'd also suggest making sure all the characters have their own, unique personality. Though I love the original series, Daphne in particular has a very weak role and presence in the gang and is mainly used as the "danger-prone" female of the group who is often the damsel in distress. I'll cite Zombie Island here again just because it's relevant, but in that particular movie, Daphne is given the strongest role (IMO) that she's had in any series and is given her own individual talk show. She also is given more of a personality and is not simply seen as the "pretty face," which unfortunately, she so often is given in the franchise, even in these latest DTV movies. I don't really have any more suggestions here that haven't already been mentioned by others, but if you're going to include any recurring characters here, I would highly suggest the Hex Girls. Most fans seem to love them and they've been featured now in several movies and series. Of course though, you're not going to make everyone happy no matter what you do. There's always going to be fans who are hardcore into the original series, and anything which deviates from it, even slightly, is immediately labeled as "trash" by some. What's important is doing what pleases you and speaks to your vision of what the characters should be like. I've seen everything from "this is the best series in the history of Scooby!" to "This series is worse than watching a month's worth of Justin Bieber videos!" on the latest few incarnations of the series. Everyone has their own biased view of what the franchise should be, after all, we're not a hive mind (shameless Stranger Things reference! ). My suggestion for how I would personally approach it the show is trying to do things which generally will be well received by most fans and try to stay true to the original somewhat, but make it your own, unique series which you are proud of. Every I wish you the best of luck in your project and I really look forward to seeing it someday! And if I could just give one more, admittedly very selfish suggestion, I would love to see Sybella from the film "Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School" appear. It may work with the vibe you're going for, as Sybella is a real vampire and would thus fit the supernatural tone you're looking for.

Characters I'd .;ike to see come back are Hot Dog water from mystery Inc, Dixie Doo from New scooby Doo mysteries, and , as many others have said, the Hex Girls. Live action, at least in other series, has left a lot to be desired, at least in my opinion. I would try going for something like we found on Zombie island.
