For some reason in the new films Shaggy can't drive the thing. Remember in the 80s films when Shaggy was alone with the dogs and could drive it just fine? It just seems like in some films like the wrestling films that Fred / Velma / Daph are there to drive them to places at times :/
I don't get it....

because Freddy is normally the driver, outside of the 13 ghosts era.

Oh I know, in the new films from What's New Scooby Doo? And up he's obsessed over the car and is always worried some thing bad will happen to if he's not driving right? I don't think he even wanted Daph to drive that one time if I remember correctly. However I'm wondering why the new writers won't let Shaggy drive, in the past series and or films Shaggy was able to drive the mystery machine just fine. He even had it with him just by himself with the dogs in the older shows.

thats because it would be silly to let Scooby drive in the 80s shows. as for whats New to now, driving the fan is Freds schtick, like traps. shaggys schtick is eating lots of food, running into the monster and being bait.

Exactly; by the "What's New" era, flanderization kicked into the characters. Also, in the "Monster of Mexico" movie, Shaggy tried driving the Mystery Machine, but since a vandal drained out all the brake fluid, that left the vehicle without working brakes!

When did traps become Fred's thing? I don't think traps were much of a big deal for him until Mystery Incorporated, or so I've heard. (MI isn't really my thing.) I think that he built a trap in one of the early 2000's movies, though...but before that, I'm not sure. I could be wrong.

Even as far back as the original series, Fred was always building traps. like the attempt to catch Charlie in the Funland episode, or the attempt to catch the phantom in another. Traps have always been Fred's thing. MI just pumped it up on steroids, Barry Bond style
