When the gang's designs were first revealed, what did you expect this show to be like? I didn't expect it to "Be Cool" at all, but now it's my favorite Scooby series out there and whenever I'm making up Scooby-Doo stories I picture the gang like they look in Be Cool and love the art style.

When I first saw the artwork for Be Cool, I thought it would be bad! I was sad to see they distorted the characters. In hearing more info and learning that the writers of Phineas & Ferb were writing Be Cool, my whole outlook on the show changed and I was excited to see it. I still prefer the original, but Be Cool is pretty good.

I was totally weirded out by the artowrk at first, and it took me a while to accept this is the new Scooby. But when jcb got on the forum, I think many of us became more open-minded towards the show. And after I watched the first episode, I loved it!

It definitely helped to have jcb put us all at ease. And awesome that he answered questions and spent time here talking to us about the show.

It will take time for me to accept Shaggy. But Daphne looks great along with her new personality.

To be honest, I thought it would be pretty bad too at first glimpse of the artwork. JCB really helped me (and a lot of us here) see it in a different light and become more excited about the show.

I'm really glad you guys have given the show a chance and I'm VERY happy to tell you that, imo, the show gets better and better. If you're liking it now, hopefully, you'll LOVE where we go from here.

I liked it when those first descriptions came out of the characters.

I have to wonder if more people would have liked the show or given it more of a chance if SDMI hadn't been immediately before it. I think so many people loved what they saw SDMI that they expected Be Cool to be exactly like it, and when it wasn't, people didn't want to give it a chance.

I agree, but I have to say that I was almost one of those people. I think it would have been smarter to phase be cool into the scooby doo tv shows rather than just coming out with it right after SDMI because they have nothing in common. It didn't work for Shaggy and scooby doo get a clue and I don't think it is working to BCSD.

But GaC came right after WNSD, at least BSCD came after a break. Not that I think this made any difference, because as you say many of those who didn't like BCSD were SDMI fans. It's the SDMI-exclusive fans that I remember had the most problem with it (although I've seen other non-SDMI exclusive fans have problems with it, too), which I don't think is very fair because at times I didn't think SDMI was very Scooby, and I don't think some SDMI fans were watching because it was Scooby, but because it was doing Twin Peaks parodies and other such dark themes. I find Be Cool has already earned its place as a Scooby show (despite it dropping in Family Guy territory ocassional, although I don't want to have to keep on saying "Despite its faults, it's all Scooby" because I don't think that's quite fair). As JCB, they're some great episodes to come, and I think by the end of the season, it will become more whole.

I see where you're coming from but I don't see how you could think SDMI wasn't very scooby when at least it had near original designs of the gang and it focused a little on romance but mostly on mystery. BCSD not only revolutionized the design, unfortunately for me, I think the design is worse, sorry JCB, but BCSD is more focused on comedy than on solving the mystery.

I liked SDMI when it was doing the standard "Unmask the fake monster mystery", not the "There's a dark evil underneath our town mystery that we have to destroy." It had very much a horror theme going for it, which I wasn't really into (along with the Twin Peaks stuff which I mentioned above). And you've probably heard it all before about how Velma was in the beginning, and the way Fred acted. In some ways I like, and in other ways I don't. I've seen other people say that it had nothing to do with Scooby-Doo, it just used the characters, but resembled very little about it, and I think they were referring to the aformentioned reasons I gave. What I do like is how it put an emphasis on how they were actually teenagers. Although, they were never really clear just how old they were until the end. I also don't get this whole "It has no mystery, just comedy," which I don't think is true in the slightest. How much mystery do you need? It has the standard mystery story, except, yes, with comedy involved, but the franchise has always been comedic, so I don't find it that much of a stretch.

BCSD not only revolutionized the design, unfortunately for me, I think the design is worse, sorry JCB, but BCSD is more focused on comedy than on solving the mystery. No need to apologize, scooby1. BCSD is TOTALLY more focused on character driven comedy than other Scoobys. The truth is every Scooby series has been different from one another, some in small ways, some in large ways - but they're ALL "Scooby Doo" and that's what's so great about it. You can approach the idea from many different angles. Right now, we're exploring the characters using a wide palette of comedy, from very broad and slapstick to sophisticated and subtle satire. The art style suits our purposes. Imagine the vending machine scene from "Mystery 101" with very realistic looking art. It would be strange and wouldn't work because it's very cartoony and slapstick - we couldn't do a bunch of our comedy if the characters were realistic looking. Either way, I understand that some people just don't like the way it looks. Hopefully, as everyone gives it a chance and watched more, as the season progresses (and gets better and better), everyone will be used to the look and can just enjoy the show.
