I'd think this would need a bit more historical context. Yeti/Bigfoot stories are mostly confined to myths (or I suppose possible native people eyewitnesses if you are a believer) up until news reports really started captivating the public perception.
Then they started creeping into more and more places. Exactly which ones influenced one another is going to be a bit harder to prove, since the alternative being "hey let's make us a bigfoot/yeti book/movie/show" and whatever similarities that may have been, intentional or unintentional.
