A new Christmas Tom and Jerry DVD will be released this October on the same day as SDMI Season 2. But what I'm getting to is that, probably inspired by the new SD specials, WB will start producing Tom and Jerry specials as well. Check out the product description: www.wbshop.com/product/tom+and+jerry-+santa%27s+little+helpers+%28dvd%29+dvd+1000497403.do?sortby=ourPicksBut this DVD set, along with the special, includes 30 episodes. Do you think Scooby should release 30-episodes DVDs with a recurrent theme? May I remind you though that the Tom and Jerry cartoons are usually compilations of 2-3 mini-episodes.

Seems more like bad news, at least this style of DVD release. The problem with including a new special, with a complication of older episodes, is the video quality always suffers. It would be better to release the new specials on a single DVD with better compression, with few or no bonus episodes.
It is bad enough Warner Bros. have dropped the Blu-Ray release for future Tom & Jerry DTVs (Tom and Jerry: The Lost dragon).

I noticed that the new movie won't be released on Blu-ray too... Hope that doens't happen with any Scooby DTVs.

I wouldn't mind seeing 30-episode DVDs of Scooby. Maybe they could release some of the 7 min 'Scrappy' episodes like they are releasing the 10 min Tom and Jerry episodes.

I noticed that the new movie won't be released on Blu-ray too... Hope that doens't happen with any Scooby DTVs. It's a matter of cost vs demand, dvd players are all over the place but BD players? Want something to keep the small screaming ones quiet on a journey well you are more likely to find a family with a portable DVD player or a laptop (which will either have a DVD player or a digital download). DB has a space in the market but it hasn't gained the traction that DVD has (my TV up-scales to 1080i quite happily so why would I pay extra for another box under my TV, especially one that is region locked unlike my DVD player?

I'm considering buying this. Unlike Scooby T&J's shorts era (barring Detich and the few legal side debate ones) are done. So i don't have much qualms with rebuying if it's worth new specials.
I'm plenty happy to see Scooby and T&J running with not one but two direct to video lines at the same time.

I hope they start doing "Looney Tunes" releases like this, with a new short or two made exclusively for the DVD. They need to make more Looney Tunes stuff, rather than just relying on Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry. In fact, maybe a new Looney Tunes direct-to-video movie would be a good idea (maybe make it almost like a bunch of segments linked to make a movie, like the Looney Tunes compilation films of the 1980s but with all-new material.)

I wondered "why" as to the Looney Tunes aren't getting it similarly. But when i did i started actually looking at store shelves and it seems on any given day most stores stock a lot more Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry than they do Looney Tunes. So by that i'm inclined to think Looney Tunes isn't the big brand some wish it to be.
But to be honest the most shocking part to me is the deal with WWE went for the Flintstones for the second film of the deal over Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry. I love me some Fred, but i would have thought in this day in age LT or T&J would be seen as bigger brands and more attractive for a cross over...but i guess sometimes we'll never know and are best left to guess the "why".
