Now this is more like it! Not one of my very favourites but there's no denying that this is one of the creepiest & mist iconic episodes of the series. The Vasquez Phantom isn't all that memorable (as it's just a man with a sheet over him) but the tricks he pulls off are very impressive and amp up the spooky factor. The mystery is near enough non-existant, thanks to the lack of any suspects, but it somehow still works just fine. The castle is almost a character in itself here. It may be slightly overplayed but this is definitely a stone cold classic episode!
Mystery: 7/10 Villain: 7.5/10 Setting: 9.5/10
Overall Score: 9/10

The Vasquez Phantom isn't all that memorable (as it's just a man with a sheet over him) It's still better than the guy in "Haunted House Hang-Up" where the sheet isn't even over the guy's whole body and you can see part of his legs haha.

You're right. Asa Shanks wasn't even trying with that getup. He did have that Axe though lol

Yep I've always viewed this guy as one of the worst villains of the show, but then I remind myself that the Phony Phantom exists and think at least he's not that

I'm not the biggest fan of this one.

I like how the villain in this episode took the old "bedsheet ghost" device for his Phantom disguise and took it further with hovering and transparency effects, even going as far as to appear walking through a well! The fact that he was a magician was also fun; I enjoy it when the culprit is a magician. Here's a cosplay I put together of Scooby-Doo's attempt at a human disguise to lure the Phantom into Fred's trap...

Plot:Typical Scooby plot. The bad guy being a magician and using tricks to scare the gang was a nice touch. 8/10 Set Up:One of the best set-ups of the series. As a kid, I found the island and the castle to be incredibly creepy.. 10/10 Monster: The ghost isn't anything special. It is one of the best, if not the best, portrayals of a guy with a sheet pretending to be a ghost, but it is still not very memorable. 5/10 BONUS (not counting in the final score unless it is 7/10 or more) Nostalgia Boost: It is one of the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episodes that I watched the most as a kid, and it was one of my favorites. 8/10
Overall, it is one of my top favorites of the series. If the monster had been more interesting, it would probably be one of my all-time favorites in general.
Final Score: 9.3/10 (Nostalgia really helped this one!)
