The source is questionable but this ones under the impression its live action www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5518/Scooby-Doo-hits-big-screen.html , some of the things they said seem like a stretch but if it is live action that does make more sense the last ones were live action and I don't think they've ever done a animated scooby movie on the big screen, at least not in the past few decades. At first it seemed like they were talking about the original two live action ones and I thought I had time travelled the internet but nope totally recent....the plot thickens. There is enough revenue behind the live actions for it to totally be plausible. Anyone got a IMDBpro?! Start checking the casting calls! lol

They mention Scooby as being "over 30 years old" and not 40.

Another project? Awesome. I doubt it's replacing the other due to both having different writers. Besides it's not like WB has any problem with a property having multiple franchise lines going on at the same time. Since Scooby has three others going on as well besides this one or two more.
However that article.....no proof editing?....faux modernist reboot paranoia?.....that person has a job? Geez. While a Scooby project i don't like can get me flustered, nothing tosses my scooby snacks like bad excuses for journalism.

I'm putting my money on it being live action. Traditionally styled animated movies don't make box office smash hits, especially true for anything not Disney. The princess and the frog was the last one I remember being in cimemas and from what I recall it earned a fair whack less than they were expecting. That and outside the fan base scooby doo is a hit and miss thing people want it to be fresh but at the same time not too different from what they remember, then there are the people who think they should have killed everything Scooby the moment the original series ended and keep moaning about how the new ones don't compare to whatever series they found the best way back when. Couple the mixed emotions with a bad release time (too many other movies, not on the school holidays....) and they will fall flat regardless of the quality of the movie. That parts kind of sad.
I adore Scooby Doo, just love it so I am very, very hard to disappoint(my rose coloured glasses get turned up to 11 for him). Keep the gang together and give the story more than one level and I'm happy anything else is cream. With that in mind, I'm sure no matter what they do live or animated, new style or old style, I can say with certainty I will love it.

I'm just still not sure why it has to be one or the other. Usually if something changes they announce a writer left and this is the new writer. A live action and animated announcement both with two different writers with time between the announcements says to me two different projects.
Whether or not the animated features will be traditional or 3d is of course a whole other issue. The theatrical trends have been 3d, but WB clearly churns out direct to video traditional all the time. So it could still stand to be either or. I would assume though if it was 3d, they would be putting that stuff in the press release since it would be the first of it's kind for these franchises that seems like the perfect thing to be calling attention to in the early stages.

Considering how loose the continuity is in Scooby, the word "reboot" is a pretty irrelevant word. Unless they change the formula completely which would annoy more fans than it would be worth, they'd pretty much be retelling the origin story again and then go right back into the same old groove again once that is done and forgotten with.

Since it's animated I wonder how they will make it stand out from their twice yearly direct to video animated films. And I disagree with he article, Freddy prince junior and the Sarah...whatever her name is, were great with their roles

Has anything more come to light on whether those two projects are indeed still separate or the one replaced the other?

Not that I've seen, but I'm guessing it will be 2 separate projects.
