I was watching the latest Scooby movies recently (Abracadabra, Phantosaur, Blue Falcon, Camp Scare, etc.) and I feel that's the direction that I want Scooby-Doo to continue doing. I feel that it is a perfect blend of scary, comedy, action, and most importantly the classic behind the mask formula.
One of the things I loved about the recent Scooby movies and the beginning of SDMI is that the monsters were realistic and super scary but at the same time it was the classic "man in a costume formula". I personally don't like it when they make the monsters real because I feel it takes away the purpose of Scooby-Doo.
And for those who say real monsters keeps things fresh, well the latest Scooby movies and most of SDMI shows that you can be creative and still have the original format. For example, in SDMI Freddy and Daphne meeting their evil counterparts was super creative and intresting yet it didn't deviate from the formula. The story where Aphrodite made others fall in love or where the Creeper's daughter seeked revenge were GENIUS, yet it stayed true to the Scooby formula. Also Phantasour and Music of the Vampire had super scary and creative scenes (Daphne almost being married to a vampire) but still kept true to the formula. In other words there are tons of other ways to be creative without resorting to real monsters. I feel that real monsters would make Scooby like the other shows that already have real monsters so it wouldn't make him unique.
In the end I think Scooby-Doo should continue it's forumla of fake monsters because that's what made him so popular. No other show has that formula, that's what Scooby is famous for.
What do you all think?
