Ah, but the Freak confronted the original Mystery Inc. before. Did Pericles know he was Jones at the time or did he know beforehand and just kept it a secret from the others (much like Velma keeping Angel Dynamite's real identity a secret from her pals)? What you posted at the end. Pericles knew who he was. If Pericles didn't, he probably surmised eventually that Mayor Jones was the Freak. After all, he's the World's Smartest Parrot, right? ;D

Old news I know, but I was finally able to watch All Fear The Freak last night. Wow, that ending really wasn't what I expected, though I pretty much figured they couldn't and wouldn't wrap up the whole mystery. Actually, I guess the only thing it actually revealed & sorta wrapped up was the true identity of Fred's parents and the role of the Mayor. The Curse/Treasure of Crystal Cove saga continues on, and the real cliff hanger is what will happen to the gang. That I wasn't expecting and it should make for some really interesting and exciting stories next season.
How will they stop Pericles when they're all separated from each other? Where are Fred's parents and when was he really born? Lots of questions.
Overall it was a great episode, though maybe not quite as fast-paced and gripping as I'd expected. It was unusual in that they sorta told the same story twice in the same episode. You see the original Mystery Inc. find their way through the caves using the planispheric map, discover the treasure, survive the traps and encounter the Freak, and then the new gang retrace their steps and essentially repeat the same story sequence. And twice their parents end up arguing with them that the whole mystery thing needs to stop and they can't see each other any more. Two pictures of Fred's 'mom' that they kept coming back to, etc. In some ways it was almost like watching the same episode "short" twice in a row.
One thing I laughed at that maybe wasn't supposed to be a joke was when Angel said "I have to confess, my real name's not Angel Dynamite." If I was one of the gang, I'd be like "Oh really? Gee, that was such an ordinary sounding name I just always assumed it's what your parent's named you. Never would've guessed."
Actually, that would be an interesting story. What happened over the years that transformed quiet, conservatively dressed, eyeglass wearing Cassidy Williams into Angel Dynamite?
All in all though, a good pause in a great story arc, setting up more to come.

I think it's a pretty average series, but after this series I'm starting to think this series is more like a published fan fiction

Hello, got a question you might be able to help me with... My daughter has just watched All Fear The Freak and is looking forward to season 2. Looking around I can't find any information about it, and there is confusion about it being season 3 (I understand there was a mid season break in this season, with the latter half being seen by some as season 2). Some sites talk about a 52 episode season (there were only 26 with AFtF being the finale?). Have the next episodes actually been made? I saw a petition online asking for another season. I'd like to be able to give my daughter a good answer (and I like SD myself to be honest!). Cheers.

Thanks, that's great to know. Hopefully there won't be too much of a delay between the US and UK releases. We have only seen two of the live action films (1 & 3), will have to catch up with those in the meantime, and fortunately Boomerang seems to have SD of one series or another on every day of the week!

At first, I thought this was supposed to be a series finale, because of all the thing that had happened with CN that called episodes 14-26 a Season 2 and stuff. Can you imagine my shock when the episode ended? It was just... perfect as an episode. Everything worked out just fine in terms of plot.

Just finished this episode in my re-watch and honestly it really is a 10/10 episode for me, just a perfect season finale. I think it's one of the more horror-esque episodes of Scooby as a whole - the Freak is certainly one of the most unnerving bad guys the gang has ever faced - and I really love when SZcooby adds a horror edge. The twist about Fred's dad blew me away when I was younger, and it still works so damn well for me, and I always get chills when he's unmasked. And the ending still makes me cry. Hearing Fred say "Mystery Incorporated is dead" when he's the one who tries to keep the gang together and going the most throughout the season is just heartbreaking. The cliff-hanger with Fred wanting to leave and Shaggy and Scooby being sent away had me on the edge of my seat back then and is just wonderfully done. And Scooby's final defiance to Pericles is such a MOMENT honestly. AN amazing episode.

I just realized during my latest rewatch that the coordinates Velma found by moving the pieces (39°9’32” N 118°20’38” W) are the same coordinates as the ones in Season 2 Episode 18, they are just in a different format. They both lead to an area in Nevada a bit west and a little south of Reno near a mountain peak called Aplite peak. Just an interesting bunch of facts I thought.

Excellent episode. Maybe not my very favorite these days now that I've known for well over a decade what happened in it, but watching this episode the first time was mind blowing, lol. Full of so much suspense and wonder of what will happen next season. I do have a few nitpicks that keep this from being ahead of a few other episodes of this series for me (The Freak being considerably less creepy than the few scenes he had last episode, a bit less action packed than it could be), but the drama and suspense make this season finale actually much more effective than the series finale ending up being for me
