The films sure are acting like its not You could kind of tell with the other shows.. 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo should cuz in that series Shaggy was wearing a red shirt, he was in the Boo Brothers and a couple of other early 80s films too. Whats New Scooby-Doo? They changed the characters in the film to look like the ones from that series and act like them and de aged them. This new series though, nothing is talked about from the series. Velma and Shaggy never dated like they did in this series and Scooby/Shaggy still main characters unlike this series where Fred is kind of well apart of the main plot. What do you guys think? Seems to me like the Scooby series is acting like this series isn't even apart of the Scooby universe like the others were.

I thought the writers had said that SD:MI was a kind of parallel universe to the regular Scooby Doo world

So I wouldn't have to watch the series and just watch the films and wouldn't cuz they are in a different universe and it wouldn't affect me.

Huh, I thought it was the same continuity, with them as teenagers still in school, like in "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" On "What's New Scooby-Doo," and similar made-for-video movies, they appeared to be in their early 20s instead...

On scoobydoo.wikia.com we are treating them as a separate continuity, so we have a separate character page for the MI incarnations of the characters.

Just my own opinion, but I think any sense of continuity or canon is purely up to each individual. I don't believe the TV and movie producers ever gave it much thought, at least in terms of any sort of official history of the gang.
Some shows put a lot of effort into that, but I don't think anyone in the Scooby productions considered it much until recent years maybe. Other than in terms of making sure the characters were drawn and animated consistently and things like that.
But I don't think any sort of HB or WB "official" history and canon exists, so to me fans are free to decide how they think it all fits together, and interpret that aspect however they see fit.

I agree that it is up to everyone's interpretation. I think some things remain constant through each series/movie, but the writers/directors/producers can create each movie or series their way.

The things that are not canon are surely SDMI, Arabian Nights, and Get A Clue.

It's not apart of the canon, a SD:MI writer confirmed it a while back, it's a complete reboot of the series. The reference's don't make any sense due to this.
For example in one SD:MI episode Daphne talks about Flim-Flam and seeing him in a museum of villains. With the 13 ghosts being my personal favorite series I know that Daphne was older by like at least 10 years and Flim-Flam was never a villain.
Plus I assumed that in the original series they were at least college aged.

Plus I assumed that in the original series they were at least college aged. In the original series they were in high school. Daphne even states something like "Shaggy is the swingest gymnast in school" in "What A Night for A Knight." In The New Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo Show, they were college aged. Shaggy mentions in "The Crazy Carnival Caper" that they graduated years ago.
