Akira Toriyama passed away at the age of 68. For those who don't know he has worked on various manga, anime and video games projects over the years, but his best known work is still probably the "Dragon Ball" franchise. I'm not sure how many fans it has here but I presume people have at the very least heard of the title, or perhaps saw allusions and homages to the shows in other cartoons. Toriyama's works have inspired a bunch of other action shows and I think have left a pretty big impact on the world. I will probably always have a soft spot for the series, and his loss is tragic.

He inadvertently did a lot for the Mario franchise which Nintendo will probably never admit to, namely building the "adventure island" aesthetic and them basing Mario's clothing design and run-cycles on a character he created. comicbook.com/anime/news/mario-dragon-ball-akira-toriyama-arale/Toei has a couple connections to the Scooby franchise, doing small segments for various episodes like the Menace in Venice and probably Cat Creature Beeline (the elevator scene), as well as designing a model sheet for Ultra Instinct Shaggy. Toriyama will be missed and he left behind a legacy, not just with Dragonball, but everything he did. I really enjoy some of his more obscure stuff with Tomato, Wonder Island, etc.
