So, there's a lot of parallels between these two films. I thought I'd made a post about this but apparently not. Frankly, it's too many to list but a couple which stand out are parts of a ship found with the name inscribed and a spooky chilly fog which accompanies ghosts and zombies. As it turns out, the lady who voices Simone is the same actress who played the female lead in The Fog so that's exceptionally interesting to me.

To add to this, I'm unsure if it's intentional but John Carpenter's films usually had unexpected, last-minute dark endings. Likewise, the cats show up at the end of the film with glowing eyes. There's also the whole issue of Beau disappearing afterward and seemingly nobody believing their story after all, considering that Daphne doesn't pursue television reporting. I may be reading too deeply into this, but it's super creepy if that's all intentional. All of Zombie Island happened... and nobody believed them. Beau did say that he wasn't even sure if his superiors "would buy this story". It's the perfect creepy ending to a powerful Scooby film.
