If scrappy were to be reintroduced in a series today what would you do with him? Not as a villain but as a regular reoccurring character.

I feel having him show up as a recurring character in a few episodes would probably work the best, similarly to Scooby-Dum in The Scooby-Doo Show. Preferably, he'd also be the more-toned down version we saw in the 80s movies.

He needs to be brought back in an anti-bullying campaign to apologize for his bullying ways before they can bring him back as a recurring character.

I think they could integrate the older shows into the newer ones, like I'd have a movie about the day Scooby met Scrappy

Scrappy has recently had: a Heroclix figure released, a fabric patch released, was featured on the front of the recentCapstone drawing book reprint, and probably more. It seems like WB certainly doesn't hate him anymore.

There are a lot of dark implications in Scrappy's backstory. Scrappy's dad has never been seen in the series, even for Scrappy's birth, which to me says he abandoned them. (That, and Ruby-Doo kept her maiden name) And Ransom of Scooby Chief...the one where they visit Scrappy's old neighborhood. Nobody brings up visiting his mom or where she is in this scenario...which to me implies that she died, and Scrappy went to live with Scooby. She appears in a flashback later, and in Pup, as a child. Another worrying implication is Scrappy's grandparents, who are are also nonpresent. Scrappy's relationship is honestly nonexistant, he has zero direct interactions with them, and refers to them as "Uncle Scooby's parents" once. They don't acknowledge their grandson whatsoever. Not even a "Hi". Where were these guys when Scrappy (and presumably Ruby, when she was alive) was living in such a rundown, dangerous neighborhood? Where were these guys when Ruby was giving birth in a public hospital? I mean, sure, maybe they couldn't make it, but this combined with everything else... Scrappy's neighborhood is pretty rough looking, and there are shady people like Carl and Tony just hanging around and nobody gives a *expletive censored*. Given Scrappy's poor upbringing, the lack of a father, and Ruby, I'm inclined to say that they stranded Ruby and have disavowed Scrappy because of the circumstances of his conception. The only mystery here, gang, is how someone as pure as Scooby came out of two such *expletive censored* people. Maybe it was living with Shaggy as a pup?

Hold the phone... Is Scrappy from a gang based in Chicago? Like, that's canon?

Hold the phone... Is Scrappy from a gang based in Chicago? Like, that's canon? Well, New York, but basically, yeah. The flashback to his birth shows him born in some hospital in the city that could easily be New York. It's less a gang gang and more acouple of other puppies who Scrappy was good friends with before he left. Annie is a sheepdog, so given her size she is likely a puppy too. Duke is apparently a terrier of some osrt and he's easily the most mature of all three of them, so he might be older, but it's hard to say.

Scrappy's abandonment issues are also present from time to time, shown how overly eager to please the gang and join in their activities, most highlighted in Runaway Scrappy when he thinks that he has to leave because of one small mistake on his part with Dusty's hat and a misunderstanding, and leads to him being easily manipulated by railroad robbers. He has moments of prodigy-level intelligence, even in the original series concerning niche skills like trap-making and woodblock carving. That being said HEAVY emphasis on "moments", because he was the type of character who you could describe as simultaneously very smart and very stupid. When Shaggy and Scooby are in a pit and tell Scrappy to toss them a rope, he tosses them the rope...and nothing tied to it. And then there's his whole dynamic of not understanding Scooby are social cues in general. Daphne got it right when she came back to the gang: if you want Scrappy to know something, you gotta be direct about it. No beating around the bush...just be straightforward and literal as possible.
So the blueprints for a fantastic character are all there, I would make a series that adheres to these implications left by the original writers and probably be more overt about them, as a cartoon in modern times can afford.
