Appears in every scooby series and movie even one where Fred and the girls play minor roles.
What do you guys think?

I guess I would argue that "main" and "most consistent character" aren't necessarily the same thing. Shaggy is definitely a main character, but most of the series follow the lives of all four of the human characters, not just Shaggy's; so I wouldn't say that Fred, Velma and Daphne don't count as main characters even if the focus on them is a little less in some series.

The gang works together as a team and even when some members are gone, their roles are still filled by somebody else. I see it more as crucial elements than main characters. Even Reluctant Werewolf still has traps.

Yes, I would say Shaggy is the co-lead of the Scooby franchise. Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Scooby allegedly won't be in Velma, Shaggy will end up being the only character to show up in every series and film. Wait, I forgot about "Daphne & Velma". Oh, that's right. Everyone else did, too.

I interviewed the director of the film, Suzi Yoonessi, recently and she confirmed that it was filmed in 18 days. I would argue that the short filming window doesn't necessarily mean they just slapped together a bunch of crap and called it a movie. Suzi mentioned in our conversation that although the the shorter filming window was a positive creative challenge that allowed for the cast to bond and for some improvisation to happen, which made certain scenes more authentic than they would have been if they had only stuck to the script. I definitely respect the opinions of anybody who didn't like the film; just wanted to provide another perspective.

But to me, that doesn't make the movie seem particularly better.

I own it on DVD; it's a worthy part of the Scooby canon. I judge it more as a TV special than a film, given the budget and timeframe, but it wasn't disappointing to me. The acting was fine, the story cohesive, and the colors vivid. Honestly, the bad reviews shocked me and I think it would have grabbed more attention as a TV special first, like Mystery Begins.

I wish I could commit to a Home Media collection of Scooby-Doo, but there's so much media still missing in both DVD and Blu-Ray formats. All I have right now is the Where Are You castle Blu-Ray collection because it was limited edition and iconic, as well as the The New Scooby-Doo Movies (Almost) Complete Collection on Blu-Ray. I would kill for The Scooby-Doo Show, Laff-A-Lympics, Scooby-Doo & Scrappy-Doo, etc. all on Blu-Ray. I don't even think Guess Who is on Blu-Ray, which is insane. What shows don't get released on DVD and Blu-Ray in the 2020's? I think all of the movies are on DVD, which is fine. But I think only a handful are on Blu-Ray.

It really depends, when the writers focus on team dynamics and interplay between the characters he's a main character, when it's just him and Scooby goofing off for slapstick then he's main but to the deteriment of that episode/DTV/whatever. Often his antics seem to just be used as filler to pad out the running length rather than moving the story along.

The Castle Collection has Season 3 of TSDS, which was a very neat surprise. I'm betting that the others aren't converted to digital HD yet, or they don't know how to release another Dynomutt set. The new movie would have been the perfect opportunity and they missed that window.

It's honestly sad how much WB wants to milk the Scooby-Doo IP by constantly pumping out stuff like SCOOB! but they don't want to put in the work of actually making all the previous content accessible to the fans they aim to engage.

What would call Fred and the girls back in the older shows when they focoused more on the two? Besides we've had tons of Direct to DVD movies that have focoused on Shaggy. Not to mention the Shaggy and Scooby solo spin off's. The latest after Velma which won't have Fred and the girls in it.
