Very sad news, but thank you for sharing it. It seems like this decision is coming from the new CEO of Warner Discovery, David Zaslav, who was quoted in the above linked article saying that he wants to shift WB to a more theatrical model, as he feels streaming projects are not as cost-effective. Should be interesting to see what this means for Velma. I'm willing to bet this is why we haven't gotten any DTVs this year - since they are trying to cut back financially with the merger, I'm assuming they also felt that direct-to-video projects wouldn't get a profit to justify releasing them. It should be interesting to see what affect this has on the franchise going forward, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it will be a positive one. If he wants to focus on theatrical, then that means bad news Velma and Mystery Pups. Probably not good things for the DTV movies, either. At this point, the only part of the Scooby franchise that doesn't seem to be in immediate danger are the comics. Apparently people connected to the crew of Holiday Haunt are trying to trend the title to get WB to release it after all, and a petition was even made. I have no hope any of that will work.

Tony Cervone said they still recorded the score for the movie, since they paid in advance for the stage and musicians. So I guess the movie is even closer to being complete now for what it's worth. http://instagr.am/p/Cg70BbTPaLW

These costs have already been incurred and cannot be recovered to any meaningful degree, but that does not mean you should continue spending money on the project (see sunk cost or Concord fallacy)

I'm really glad they showed this to the cast and crew! Good to know they were able to see the final result of all their hard work on the film

Man, seeing how fantastic the fully rendered animation looks makes me even more annoyed that we're probably never going to see it! Also, is that The Mystery Machine in a brown paint job in the background?

I hope we do somehow get to see it one day too. Did I mention how much I dislike that tax writeoff strategy tv people love....oh i did....well yeah I do lol.
I'd like to have hope the completion of it is more to do with them reconsidering, but it also might be the costs were sunk too.

Director Michael Kurinsky explained the reason why the movie was completed. It's not that WBD wanted to complete the movie, but they've already paid for all the movie (I guess that payment could no longer be recovered). However, WBD still can't monetize with the movie in any way due to the $40 million tax write-off.

That's what i meant by the term "sunk" which in business jargon means they have already spent the money before the job was completed so there's no way to recover the money from stopping the project.

Bill Haller posted another image from the movie (I don't think this was released before, it's apparently from the credits)-

I was looking forward to this film. Was also looking forward to Batgirl on the DC side, far more than Black Adam or The Flash to be honest.

Isn't there some way they can release it for free? Not really. They can't release it on their streaming network as that'd be profit getting people on their service. They won't let another streaming service have it for free, that's aiding their competition. I honestly don't see it getting a release until there's new management. So years probably, which I'm not happy about. All for a tax break that's a pittance in the grand scheme of things.
