HBO Max announced their slate of new releases coming next year including the long awaited (by some) SCOOB sequel (sort of)! deadline.com/2021/12/hbo-max-2022-tv-series-movies-lineup-trailer-1234900701/In the few seconds of preview we can see young Scooby licking his snout. What's interesting is the background which looks more 2D animated than the CGI we saw in the first movie, which would be understandable since they made this so quickly. Plus, it would be really nice to see the gang solve a mystery as kids. Also, this isn't a major release apparently, just a direct-to-stream movie. I am sooo curious to see how cute this will be if it is indeed how I imagine it to be. Also, it IS a movie and not a special, Tony Cervone confirmed it on his Insta adding that he's excited for us to see and they are deep in production right now. Also he said it would be coming around this time next year. I am personally excited for a Christmas movie since we don't have any and I really really hope it's just a wholesome Scooby mystery with no guest stars nor other Hanna Barbera characters. Finally, this means that we already have 1 of the 2 movie releases for next year out of the way. Of course we all think the Krypto crossover will be the other one but still no info on that. Also, I don't know if they are planning to announce more of their new shows throughout the year but it is interesting they didn't show "Velma". I thought it would come by next year tbh, hopefully we won't have to wait til 2023. What are your thoughts on this?

I wouldn't have expected this to be the Scoob! reboot they mentioned, but I'm really excited for this! I loved the original Scoob! film, so the sequel should be fun

Aaah yes, so glad they’re gonna stay kids in this movie. The first 10 mins of Scoob are the best of the whole movie!

Tony Cervone mentioned the movie will have the same production as a theatrical release, so we don’t have to expect anything less. And it will be mpre intimate on the gang with a larger focus on the mystery at hand with the monster and special effects to be high quality. Also he said this is indeed officially the sequel to Scoob and a Christmas movie at once. Also, he said yes to a fan asking if the movie is set in the Hanna Barbera Cinematic Universe, whatever that means. Hopefully that doesn’t mean we’ll get too much screen time from Hanna Barhera characters

References are fine but it doesn't need a reboot. We have been getting way too many reboots with de-aged characters.

References are fine but it doesn't need a reboot. We have been getting way too many reboots with de-aged characters. While I wouldn't necessarily want a "reboot," they could just as well revive "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" as a new season of the original show. The only main differences would be the high-definition animation (including the opening being redone in HD) and several of the voices having to be recast, especially since Casey Kasem, Don Messick and Carl Steven have since passed on. (I'd have Matthew Lillard voice young Shaggy, Scott Innes voice young Scooby, Jason Marsden voice young Freddy, and maybe have Mindy Cohn voice young Velma, while getting Kellie Martin to reprise young Daphne and Scott Menville reprise Red Herring.) Plus, just remember how "What's New, Scooby-Doo?" was more or less a realistic version of "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" with the gang as young adults (especially with the frequent lampshading/parodying of the usual Scooby formula, the scatterbrained Fred and the wealthy vain Daphne.) So it probably wouldn't be too hard to pull off, with the right cast and crew on the job, that is!

The internet loves using names for things whether they are actually in use by the studios. I think that term was used once hypothetically several years back. We weren't even sure they were going to launch any other project off Scoob's continuity until they saw how it performed. Then covid happened and the metric they were supposed to be using for that got thrown out the window.
Point is, this special is set in the same world as Scoob with the same production team behind it. Which kinda proves they saw some element worth continuing. But that survey they sent out had plenty of questions of if you'd rather see more focus on Mystery Inc and i'm going to say they probably got a lot of "yes" answers on that one.

It was finished as well, which makes this sadder. They just want that movie universe to end. Velma and Mystery Pups facing the axe as well, despite the former being nearly finished and the latter in early production. That said, if the franchise does move over to Europe and Cartoon Network UK’s scope, then we’re getting some good news soon.

Very sad news, but thank you for sharing it. It seems like this decision is coming from the new CEO of Warner Discovery, David Zaslav, who was quoted in the above linked article saying that he wants to shift WB to a more theatrical model, as he feels streaming projects are not as cost-effective. Should be interesting to see what this means for Velma. I'm willing to bet this is why we haven't gotten any DTVs this year - since they are trying to cut back financially with the merger, I'm assuming they also felt that direct-to-video projects wouldn't get a profit to justify releasing them. It should be interesting to see what affect this has on the franchise going forward, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it will be a positive one.
