Interesting matchup. We have a music studio on one hand and a puppet theater on the other
Starting off with The Backstage Rage. We have one of the greatest episodes of Scooby Doo of all time, if not a bit polarizing. Some will say that this is the single greatest episode ever made and others will have it as below average in its series. Personally, I am much closer to the former. The atmosphere in this episode is quite possibly the best of all time. It is so dark and filled with creepy little moments (standing in the costume room, laughing in the box, laughing in the secret room). It is like almost a horror masterpiece. An episode that places a ton of focus on the setting and especially the atmosphere and feel of the episode, which I absolutely adore in an episode. The mystery and crime are not too shabby either. In fact I’d say that they are pretty good! Probably in my top 3 episodes of the series, with a strong case to be the best
Diabolical Disc Demon is a fun one. For one, the phantom has an awesome design. Everything else is pretty strong in hindsight as well, especially for an episode I used to consider overrated. The mystery is pretty smart and the crime is pretty cool as well. I really enjoy the music studio setting. Overall, one of the season 3 highlights
Winner is obviously Backstage Rage if you read any of that lol

Probably controversial but I'm not a huge fan of either of these episodes.
The disc demon is a far more memorable villain but that's about all that episode really has going for it. The music studio makes for a decent enough setting but that skit of Shaggy/Scooby at the vending machines drags on, enormously.
"Backstage" doesn't have the most engaging story or villain but the creepy atmosphere is layered on double-thick, which I would say gives it the edge. Something feels very off about this episode in more ways than one but there's no denying it is probably has the eeriest vibe, out of the WAY series.
The Backstage Rage wins!

"Backstage Rage" for sure for the creepy atmosphere and the mystery. I liked The Phantom's design in "The Diabolical Disc Demon," but like others have mentioned the various Shaggy and Scooby skits like the vending machine kind of drag on.

I love the puppets aspect of Backstage Rage. It gets my vote.

I recently watched "The Diabolical Disc Demon," and while I find radio DJ stuff interesting and the villain genuinely creepy (along with some surprisingly fluid animation from the Phantom), I still have to go with "The Backstage Rage." It's one of my all-time favorite episodes, since I'm really into theatre and puppetry, and it had a great freaky villain and some REALLY creepy moments. And we also get one of the rare courageous moments from Scooby-Doo, when he barks threateningly at the Phantom Puppeteer and the gang ends up having to save him!
