Well everybody let's chock this news in the pile that are the kind of things that could happen but absolutely no one saw coming. So Syfy is setting a new movie based on the idea that a kid goes to attend a taping of the Banana Splits and horror movie hijinks start to take place. Exactly how weird or not this is, i can't say for sure.
But like Daphne and Velma, these live action versions of HB properties are clearly still just their own little oddity corners to try stuff out with them. So we can take away at the very least the Banana Splits are in the running for WB's future brand plans if they are getting this thing produced.

My main takeaway from this is WB saw that Creepypastas were popular and wanted to make an officially licensed Creepypasta with their properties.

I think it should be a murder mystery comedy instead. The Banana Splits' ex-manager could be murdered and due to how acrimoniously they fired him, the olice would consider them the rime suspects, leading them to hire the Finkerton detective agency to help them clear their names.

I mean on one hand it's a strange idea but the more I think about the more interested i am to see what they do with it.
This also should probably eliminate worries WB won't consider more extreme reimaginings of the characters at least in some arenas.
I did read this one will go to dvd first and then debut on Syfy. Which we might also want to take a moment and recognize this is a HB project that is NOT airing on a Turner owned network. Second after Scoobynatural. So this might be one of those small little things now that later on might look more relevant.

SyFy also aired this mini-series about a haunted retro children's show. If they do something tonally similar to this, this could be a genuinely creepy movie.

This actually sounds interesting. Didn't expect them to use the Banana Splits though.

This actually sounds interesting. Didn't expect them to use the Banana Splits though. The Banana Splits last airing was in a one-shot crossover with Suicide Squad in 2017 courtesy of DC Comics, before and after they've been collecting dust in WB's warehouse of unused IPs. I suspect WB figures if this crashes and burns then there's no harm done as they were earning nothing from them anyway. If it works then you might see some more with some other forgotten IPs.

The trailer for this one is out now, and while we may push our family-based level here to not say too much, it looks like a fun horror comedy.
While this one is probably just coincidental, it reminds me a bit of the kind of fun the Scooby Doo Project was or what Harvey Birdman started out being. This is the weird reinterpratation stuff that seems like it'll be fun as long as it doesn't hurt chances of seeing the normal Splits elsewhere afterwards.

Looks like the laziest possible version of this concept The Banana Splits had a bizarre style that was clearly inspired by Laugh-In and was an obvious influence on Pee Wee's Playhouse. It was cheap but it was distinct and artistic. The movie looks like you can replace them with literally any other kids show.

Wow, that looks really bad. Like, I can understand the whole post-FNAF & post-Bendy horror craze, but this is the Banana Splits. Their theme song is literally so happy and upbeat, and even with the "evil red laser eyes" they don't look frightening in the slightest.
IDK, m a y b e this could be pulled off, but I think it just has bad idea written all over it. (Although, ScfFy isn't exactly known for high-art movies) The filmmakers already have an uphill battle just trying to make the Splits look scary. If this is just a full-on horror comedy/parody, maybe... But even that's a bit of a stretch IMO.
Hopefully this won't make Banana Splits fans look like those who like FNAF plushies un-ironically.

You guys are basically railing on the reasons I like it. I love low budget horror and horror comedies. I don't really care about them looking scary because I don't get scared. Had this movie have been serious I wouldn't care as much about it.

I know what FNAF is (Five Nights at Freddy's) although I've never played that game, but what's Bendy?

There's low budget horror comedies that work because everyone involves get what makes the genre work, and then there's the attempts at low budget horror comedies that don't because the people involved just don't care and don't put effort in. I don't know which one this will be yet.

I like the ones that aren't afraid to be cartoony something that is often lacking in bigger budget Hollywood. I've been on this about this is why I like the made for tv live action Scooby movies more than the theatricals.
I'm also the kind of person who watched two 2000s era Scifi/Syfy original movies for fun this very month. So yeah nothing Ive seen so far has made me dislike the direction this is going in, others are free to disagree as that's what makes the world go round.
