To me the best episodes are:
The Loch Ness Mess: A truly spooky and scary set of scenes with the revolutionary ghosts, an awesome group of monsters, and a really cool old Boston mansion at night.
Dynamic Scooby Doo Affair: An awesome mystery with the revolving house, a fantastic villain reveal, and my favorite guest stars of Batman and Robin.
The Haunted Horseman in Hagglethorn Hall: An awesome guest star in Davy Jones, a great castle setting, and a really cool knight ghost.
Mystery of Haunted Island: A great guest star in the Globetrotters and a really awesome and spooky mystery in Haunted Island.

Guess Who's Knott Coming to Dinner: Lively performance by Don Knotts as well as a perfectly convoluted mystery
The Secret of Shark Island: Such witty comedy writing. It's rare that classic Scooby is this genuinely funny but Cher's deadpan delivery and Sonny's goofball charm really sell it
The Ghostly Creep From The Deep: Had to have a Harlem Globetrotters episode
The Caped Crusaders Caper: Not very good but definitely indicative of the series

In my opinion the Ghostly Creep from the Deep is not that great of an episode, it's definitely top half but I like the other two Globetrotters episodes way more. The Caped Crusader Caper is also the inferior Batman episode to me as well

I was left with the impression that the writers were still unsure about the new format, so I wasn't that much impressed by the first three episodes. "The Frickert Fracas", however, did seem like a step in the right direction. "The Secret of Shark Island" was quite good, although I was rather distracted by some of the similarities it shared with "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island". Or should that be the other way around? "The Exterminator" was also a good episode.

Hmmm, assuming IMDb is reliable, then the following people had, in fact, written for Scooby-Doo before: Larz Bourne, Tom Dagenais and Bill Lutz. Many of the others seem to have worked on other Hanna-Barbera shows, as well. It's one thing being used to writing for 20-minute shows and another thing for 40-minute shows. Incidentally, something similar had happened with Doctor Who's Season 22 in 1985, which featured 45-minute episodes, instead of the standard 25-minute episodes. The whole dynamic was different and the series would not feature episodes of such length again until the revival in 2005, when TV dramas were expected to fit into an hour-long format. But you knew that already!

"The Secret of Shark Island" was my most favorite episode in the series.
I also like the one with the Harlem Globetrotters as guests, which involve a lake.
