Looks like They are compiling the old Saturday Morning sets

Things haven't exactly been as clear on the Warner Home Video scene for a while as in the past, but of course now we know what the major reason for some uncertanty there probably was.

But anyway some may remember how when the Home Media market wasn't as sure of complete dvd sets WB release several Saturday Morning compilations of their various cartoon holdings from the WB, HB, DC, etc libraries. Now it looks like the whole package is getting a re-release together. According to the back cover they are new discs but by the weird way it's listed I'm assuming everything on each of the five sets is going to be on them.

If anyone here didn't buy the originals but would like a sampler of some of the lesser shows you've never gotten to see, this is probably a good deal. But practically useless if you'd just prefer complete series sets of everything included.

As a last comment it's kind of telling that they gave the entire main cover to Hanna Barbera. Tom and Jerry being the MGM side but is clearly being associated more with main HB in the previous years. Porky Pig and Batman made the back cover though. Along with one representative of the Ruby Spears side of the family, which also is just lumped in with HB these days.

EDIT: Just for the interest, i decided to look to see how many of these now are available otherwise on dvd. I used the legal crawl on the back cover to make this list and I had trouble finding detailed listings on the 70s sets so I may have missed some.

Interesting! I remember owning one of the old sets when i was younger.

I believe the only part of the set that included Scooby was the '70s Pt. 1 which was The Ghostly Creep from the Deep (The New Scooby-Doo Movies).

That was the one I owned. Not a bad set, but kinda sucks if you just wanted to get the Scooby Doo episodes.

Someone brought up whether or not the masters on a lot of these that Warner Archive worked with would be used instead of some of the older ones that originally went into this set. This one I'm not entirely sure about. Given that the back cover lists that some of the contents of the old discs are sharing disc space on the new set. So like the Hanna Barbera Diamond Collections these are clearly new manufactured discs as opposed to putting new artwork on old discs.

Obviously in the other areas of this community the general idea I saw was that Warner Archive versions were going to continue to get more and more editions of older material. That however wasn't going to rule out occasional store pressings or sets like these as samplers. The idea that Top Cat and Wacky Races got both a Diamond Collection and Archive Collection releases in the same year kind of was the major evidence of this theory.

Their releasing of a new combiner set with all the old content clearly plays into this idea too. Here's your sampler taste. You want more buy the bigger disc or digital releases or ask for them on the streaming app.
