I always loved Daphne since my childwood, and even at the time (and even having seen very little of the 1980 series except for the 13 Gosht of Scooby-Doo, witch was the most aired) i have noticed that the character had very mutch changed between the last serie with the original team, and the serie when she come back with Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy.
We didn't know what happened to her in the few years between the two series, and it's a pity because her change would have deserved some explication. She was very shy in the first series, and often in the background except when she was captured. She seemed submissive toward Fred and Velma (maybe she had an inferiority complex?), and thought she contribute in the mystery solving by finding clues and other minor things, we can't say she shine mutch. She seemed a little more confident by the time Scrappy was introduced, but then she vanished with Fred and Velma, and when she come back, she seemed to have take Fred place as leader, and thought not as super-smart as Velma was, she was a better mystery solver than before. I know some people think she was changed because the gang needed a more courageous character to balance Shaggy and Scooby, and it was surely true, but if we are a little analytic, her evolution can make sense.
I have always imagined she realized that she was a burden for the gang, and decided to leave partly because of it when they split up. She would have worked on her confidence with some coaching and take care of be less clumsy, would have take jobs for become more responsible, ect... Her leadership qualities in the New Scooby-Doo mysteries may have not come from nowhere (like i have read some people say). We can easily suppose that, after all the years she spend in Fred's shadow, she learned from it and used the memories she had for her own leadership. I love her change because she was my favorite character so i am happy she has matured and could be the leader of even Fred and Velma (in the few épisodes when they come back), but i would have loved to have more explication. What do you think she did between the Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo show and the New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo show, and how she changed so mutch?

However i wondered what the character could have done in the years between 1980 and 1983 and what happened in her mind, because i don't think you could change that mutch in three years (specially considering there are more than three years between Scooby-Doo where are you and the Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo show, and she hasn't changed mutch at all). It would be interresting too read a good fanfiction about it, if you know one.
