He's a good character and I just don''t see why everybody hates him so much.

I find him to be annoying myself. Granted, the series he was in may or may not have worked without him, but I really just can't stand him. If he wasn't always trying to be the tough dog and stealing Scooby's thunder, and his catch phrases weren't so annoying, he might have been a good character.

Most of the time I liked Scrappy. The only times I find him to be annoying is in episodes of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo with the whole gang. I think as time went by, he got less annoying.

Same with me. Lennie Weinrib had a very annoying Scrappy voice.

Glad you agree with me! Lennie was the first tough, and it took a lot of effort to find the right voice for him, so I'm not going to say anything terrible.

Essentially he's a one-trick pony who was massively overused in an attempt to revive the show. Now small children will go for dumb slapstick and Scrappy can provide that, they will also go for silliness in inappropriate situations, Scrappy can provide that, but that is all he can provide. Skilled writers will be able to take that to the next level and provide a degree of depth for older views as well as some leg room for the character to grow. With Scrappy that was too hit and miss, I've seen some episodes where he's actually pulling his weight, involved in the story then suddenly he slammed back into the silly-slapstick box.

Very well said, and I completely agree. Also to me, adding Scrappy was just like when a sit-com is quite a few seasons in and they suddenly add a "little brother" character to the cast to stir things up, but just ends up negatively dominating air time and story plots.

it was a phase carttons wre going thru at the time. they added gadzuki to godzilla they added scrappy to scooby etc. scrappy was interesting in concept, not in execution. scoobys isnt the father type, or really the mentor type.

Not everybody hates Scrappy. Lots of people like Scrappy. I like Scrappy. Some people don't like Scrappy because they felt like he wasn't necessary, and a lot of them had no idea that the writers created Scrappy solely to convince ABC to not cancel Scooby. It just seems like there are more haters then fans because the company chooses to acknowledge the haters more. (The 2002 movie probably had something to do with this.) And then it became a meme, and, well, you know how it is with memes. And soon people who hadn't even seen the show began "Complaining" about Scrappy. I say this not out of spite, you could easily tell by who referred to Scrappy as Scooby's "Cousin" or "Son".

Well I grew up with the show (I was born in 1968) and even when I was a kid I didn't like Scrappy much.
