So when I did some research for a fic I made a list of qualities and skills the gang had. Has anyone thought that maybe Shaggy would have been cool in high school- in the older series that is. I looked at Hanna-Barbara produced episodes over what's new and such and he could be.
Well off money wise (nice homes and family had a lot of money too), probably would have done well in gymnastics and track (state competitions), Guitar player (maybe in a band?), had a talking dog. Bit of a jokester, he raced cars in a movie so he could have the cars thing going for him.
What do you think?

I'm not sure. The racing came much later (and once), so I'm not sure if that really stands. In Mystery Begins, he came off as an oddball and was originally the outsider who didn't fit into any social group, I think that could probably relate back to the original. On the other hand, 1969 Shaggy could've been popular because of the basic qualities HB gave all its teens.

Shaggy would be the one all the other students picked on. I was picked on a lot in high school and my personality is very similar to Shaggy's.

Fred seemed to be the BMOC, but I think Shaggy could still command attention with his own merits. In SDWAY, he was an athlete and I can see him being on some of the same sport teams with Freddy (like track and gymnastics). I can picture people liking him - especially if his presence on said team would mean the school championship.
I was disappointed these bits of the character were left out in SDMI. It would have added a bit more to him besode being a Vincent Van Ghoul fan. Perhaps seeking a sports scholarship or something to Darrow University [in the earlier timeline]!

I think so. Shaggy would totally stand out because of his ventriloquist skills, and being friends with THE Scooby Doo is pretty rad. The gang mention in S1E1 that he's a gymnast so he's got that going for him too. Shaggy cracks plenty of jokes, so it seems like he'd be a class-clown. What would really make him popular is how social he is. Never have I seen Shaggy judge somebody, he seems to be pretty progressive like how him and Flim-Flam are friends despite him being a kid and he respects Scooby even though he's a dog. Plenty of things point to him being a respectable dude, contrary to what Mystery Begins depicts.
