I wonder why the villain was so stupid to hypnotize himself in this episode. His reasons for doing what he did in this episode was pretty petty.

Another one of my favorites and another one of the creepiest as well for obvious reasons. It was my childhood favorite and while I'm not quite as high on it anymore (just because some others became even better to me), it is still definitely an all time great

I think people with clown phobias would be terrified by this episode although this was not my favorite. Another example of the difference in the Italian adaptation is the voicing of the characters. The muscle man and the midget are in fact dubbed respectively in a super acute voice and a super manly low voice, which is the opposite from the original version. I believe the Italian version adds a lot of comedic value because of the switch in voices making it less obvious, hence funnier

The villain was an idiot for hypnotizing himself.

The Ghost Clown is honestly one of my favourite villains from the entire series, in both appearance & mannerisms. I feel the setting and plot get a bit repetitive though, as they could've went a bit further than just 3 members of the gang getting hynotised ... although it does demonstrate how twisted the Ghost Clown is. It's pretty clear his plan was to kill Shaggy & Scooby in order to make damn sure the circus closes forever.

The predecessor to Pennywise in the insane, purely evil clown business and one of the best villains ever in my opinion

Does anyone here understand that it was dumb that the Ghost Clown let himself be hypnotized? If he was as clever as he made himself out to be, then that wouldn't have happened.

Reviewed this one above but my feelings have changed slightly on it. I still think that the Ghost Clown is one of the best (if not the best) villains that the gang ever faced, in the series but the mystery just doesn't really go anywhere. 3 of the gang getting hypnotised is a bit overkill, I think, and Daphne's unicycle section goes on forever. 2 hypnotisms would've been ample as I wish there was more typical mystery solving in the second half of the ep. It all just gets a tad repetitive.
Mystery - 6.5/10 Villain - 10/10 Setting - 8/10
Overall Score - 8/10

Did this episode invent the ghost clown genre?

Did this episode invent the ghost clown genre? I’m not completely sure if it started the trend or not, but it is certainly an early example

I just watched this episode and I had to ask, why did Daphne go through a costume change in this episode and not the others when they got hypnotized?

Daphne was in the costume tent when she was hypnotized. It follows that she'd put on a costume.

Plot:One of my favorite mysteries in the series The hypnotism was a nice touch. 10/10 Set Up: Not much here. 6/10 Monster:The Clown ghost was a cool villain. He was twisted and wanted to harm the gang for real. Hypnotizing himself in the end prevents me from giving him the perfect 10. 9/10
BONUS Nostalgia Boost:None. I didn't watch it a lot as a kid.
Overall, a cool episode with a nice villain but a weak set-up. Final score:8.3/10
Btw did you notice that Shaggy was the leader in this one? Weird isn't it?
