I'm sure the writer's will have Velma lighten up some by the end of the season. If they were perfect for each other right from the start there'd be no story...and we wouldn't have got to see Shaggy trying to walk and duck in those pants! Mark LOL soo true! xD

I'm already starting to dislike her more than Scrappy. At least Scrappy wasn't trying to change ShaggyXD

I believe her intentions and heart are in the right place. She cares a lot about Shaggy and will like for him to do well in life...however the pants were too much for me, she could have at LEAST find something that made him look nicer but still his style. I just hope she eases up on Shaggy some, she's already moved from my favorite human character in the new series to being tied with the last(fred). She is still my fave of the other series but not this one; She's just too hard on Shaggy.

...however the pants were too much for me, she could have at LEAST find something that made him look nicer but still his style. I'm not sure which was worse? Those pants or the 1920's little boy outfit Fred dressed him in to trap the villain. Both made for some good laughs though, and were both gone by the end. I agree though, I'm sure Velma will ease up as the story progresses. Every couple goes through some rough spots getting used to each other in the beginning, so the writers had to do something to have a story. And Velma's probably a bit of a perfectionist, so she'll have to learn to compromise a bit, which will take at least a couple episodes. For now I'm just laughing at the humor of it and not getting too upset too soon. Mark

I don't even know why Daph gave her the advice when she can't even seem to get Fred yet.

This was a review of SD:MI regarding Shaggy and Velma from the Chicago Sun-Times:
So very, very wrong. In the latest “Scooby-Doo” incarnation, “Mystery, Incorporated,” Cartoon Network brought us the grooviest Scooby gang yet: Fred and Daphne as friends with benefits, Shaggy and Velma making out in the mystery van, and Scooby acting jealous. This is progress? The new hip, ironic tone of the series is appreciated, but as for the rest of it — yikes!

Seems to me many of the critics are stuck on wanting the old Scooby. They have their reruns, as far as I'm concerned. I think this version is excellent because it provides more depth of the characters, as opposed to just solving mysteries. One question: Why is it okay for Fred and Daphne to be together, while it isn't with Shaggy and Velma? Who put in that edict?

I don't think it's that Shaggy and Velma can't be together. I think it's just not familiar to everyone because this is the first time in a series that it has come up. People are used to Fred and Daphne being flirty...they've been like that forever. But it's so different to see Shaggy and Velma together and it's coming between the relationship of Shaggy and Scooby, which also is something people aren't used to.

Had to think about this one a while before posting. I actually don't think people are all that opposed to Shaggy & Velma, any more than they are to Fred and Daphne. I think what's actually driving the divided opinions on their respective relationships is the way they've been handled on the show. Not so much the relationships themselves. With the exception of Fred simply being boneheaded about the whole thing... ...their relationship has been portrayed onscreen in a fairly unobtrusive manner, so people are okay with it. Shaggy & Velma on the other hand have been portrayed in a manner that invites controversy & divided opinion, and thus that's what we see in reviews and postings. Which is cool actually, because obviously that seems to be what the creators intended. If Shaggy & Velma had been handled in a more casual and simply humorous manner, I doubt people would seem anymore opposed to it than they are Fred & Daphne. Which would also be fairly boring. And SD:MI isn't trying to be boring or simply repeat an existing Scooby formula. Personally I hope they continue the Shaggy-Velma relationship to a more logical conclusion than to just end it cold. That would be a complete waste of a fairly major 13 episode plot thread. It may be rough viewing at times until they get there, but in the end would be a more interesting story once all is said and done and known. More interesting for example than the way "Curse Of The Lake Monster" handled the same subject, which ended up seeming somewhat pointless & unsatisfying. That's not meant to be a slam on CotLM, but if you're going to go down a particular creative path, then make the most of it. Mark
