And even more spoilers!! There's so much going on in this episode, and it's STILL not finished!! I LOVE that little showdown by Velma and Angel Dynamite at the end! Is Angel really Cassidy, or perhaps her sister? And doggone it, I want to hug Velma and tell her she's not alone! I'll say it right out: Shaggy, you're an idiot. And Daphne's college friends? Whoa. How's about Ed Machine/ Mr. E's henchman, eh? Destroido is a trip! ;D And Scooby Addict--? You and others here got quite the guts in wanting to wait for the rest of the episodes to air on CN! All I can say is...join us...join us...join us...

My first theory I want to share about this episode is that Flim Flam and Scrappy Doo were shown as a precursor to what is going to happen down the road. I believe that Flim Flam & Scrappy will be coming up in a later episode. The twist is that Flim Flam does not live in Crystal Cove and will have aged (unlike many of the residents of Crystal Cove). I think he will appear to be the same age as the gang, although he was quite younger than them before.
I think no one ages in Crystal Cove as long as they stay in Crystal Cove. Yet, outside in the rest of the world, time does not slow down. Remember The Secret Serum episode where the villian was trying to find the secret to Nan Blake's (Daphne's Mom's) youthful appearance?

Why did Daphne recognize Flim Flam and not recognize Vincent Van Ghoul in Night Fright? - even though in the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo they were all toghter?

About the oil. If they would have successfully drilled down far enough to reach the oil, I think that the series of caves would have been effected. Is it possible that the caves run under the water? ... as in the movie, Curse of the Lake Monster.

Now, will Angel own up to being Cassidy or deny it? And if she owns up, will she reveal what happened to the rest of the original Mystery Inc.? Still six episodes left after "The Siren's Song" to tie up all loose ends.
Daphne most likely only recalled Van Ghoul as the enigmatic figure that helped her and the others in 13 Ghosts, while this Van Ghoul is a movie actor with a bit darker hair and leaner chin. Loved Fred's reason for not recognizing Flim Flam.

I now find it interesting that Velma talked to everyone but Fred when she tried to get the gang interested in the mystery that Amy told her about. Why didn't she just call Fred up first, or asked Daphne to talk to Fred, like she did Scooby with Shaggy? Fred would've jumped at it in a heartbeat, we know he would have. Here's my guess: That Daphne talked about "interruptions" to Velma about calling while Daphne is on dates with Fred, so Daphne can "work on" getting closer to her boyfriend ("Nightfright" was the exception, because Shaggy and Scooby were in danger). And now, see, that's what I liked about what Velma did here by simply taking Daphne's boat to investigate herself. It was partly to get back at her. Underneath, I believe Velma resents Daphne because whereas Daphne's relationship with Fred has gone way up the scale, her's with Shaggy went down to out on the same said scale. Please recall that Daphne encouraged Velma after Velma asked her for advice in it being alright in telling a boy what to do in a relationship, ("Revenge of the Man Crab") by which Daphne gave her the okay to do so. Well, we know how that turned out, didn't we? Fact is, Velma also asked Angel Dynamite for help, too, concerning her relationship with Shaggy (and Scooby) ("Battle of the Humungonauts"), by the which Angel turned them down. So as far as I'm concerned, Velma did try her best to ask for help, and everything fell flat. (I'm not even going to get into Sheriff's Stone's contribution, btw.) Conclusion: Velma's getting no dap.

Watched this one again too and really like it, though I've always loved the 'sea & ocean' mysteries. This kinda reminded me of an early X-Files type of episode. I really loved the whole feel and look of this episode.
The oil rig was a neat new sort of location for a creepy setting. The fog animation effects were really nice, and also made me think a little of...The Fog.
Oh, and did anyone notice that Velma's room was a little less of a 'shrine' to the Hex Girls? Still has the skulls, but not as gothy as before. (This was discussed once in an older thread, so I thought I'd mention it.)
One thing I wonder though, what is it about all these costumes that make the otherwise ordinary villains able to leap 100 feet out of the water, burst through solid wood, throw cars and other large objects, etc?
The only thing I was a little disappointed by was Ernesto and his group being the villains. I guessed it a little early on, but what disappointed me a little was that the episode mysteries themselves are sometimes starting to get a little too tongue in cheek for me. I like that to some extent, but in some episodes it's almost like they don't take the ep mystery very seriously...'they' being the writers. The Mr. E stuff is always very intriguing, but the individual episode mysteries have been sometimes a little less so.
This is one of the reasons I liked "Mystery Manor" so much I think.
I like humor obviously, but not to the extent that the mysteries almost start to seem more like a parody. Siren's Song wasn't like that so much, but a few others kinda have been. To me at least.
Otherwise though I did truely enjoy this episode.

I hope we'll see more of Scoobys relatives down the line. For instance I wonder how Scooby would react to seeing Scrappy again " Wait Didn't we try to get rid of you?" Maybe, instead of trying to break up Scoobys relations (as he did in Scoobys Swiss Miss) He'd actively try to pair Scooby up ' I already have an Uncle. Why not have an aunt too?"

Maybe, instead of trying to break up Scoobys relations (as he did in Scoobys Swiss Miss) He'd actively try to pair Scooby up ' I already have an Uncle. Why not have an aunt too?" I like that idea, and there's possibilities for comedy there. Basically the possibility of comedic situations in this case come from Scrappy trying to pair Scooby up with every female Dog the gang meets. Scrappy could be thinking exactly what you said scoobnick, but I can hear and see Scooby trying to stop Scrappy from doing it. Something like the following I can definitely see happening: Scooby: "Rappy, ri ron't rant a rirlfriend", or "Rappy, ri'm not interested in rirl dogs right now." To which Scrappy would naturally reply: "But Uncle Scooby, I have an uncle, so why not an aunt too?", or saying something like "Have I got the dog for you, my Uncle Scooby, he's brave, and a very cool dog, I think you would love him.", etc. Basically Scrappy could try anything and everything to set his Uncle up on a date, but with Scooby refusing, or saying he's not interested in having a girlfriend. I could also see after a while, Scooby finally relenting and allowing Scrappy to set him up on a date; maybe even it could be a double date: Scooby and his girl dog, and Shaggy and Velma, it could work. And like I mentioned above, it could make for some great comedy.

yes theres definitely comedic potential there. although, in the future grouping, i would have it be like this:Scrappy would only periodically appear, Scooby's girlfriend would be a permanent addition. course the big question is, who takes care of Scrappy? having Scooby and his girlfriend serve as de facto parents would be asking a bit much. Stopping professor pericles, while balancing your love life and responsibilies as an adoptive parent.. thats a lot to ask of our favorite mutt..
