I always found Fred and Velma as unneeded characters in my opinion. I always wonder what it would of been like if the series started out with Scooby, Scrappy, Shaggy and Daphne in the early 80's. I honestly find the original gang too bland. Also, I didn't exist in the 80's so I have no idea of what the fandom was like back than.

We were excited to get to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings. That was probably the only time we weren't running around outside. I don't think people had the "fandom" mindset then. There was no internet, no Netflix, no forums. You just watched the shows when they were on TV and maybe taped them on VHS so you could have them to watch later.

Those seven minute shorts are most likely the reason why the majority part of the hate started. Lets say those were skipped and went straight to The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show where Scrappy isn't always getting in the way of the screen with being only semi-hated but popular enough to still appear.

I like Scrappy. A lot. Just relax. And remember that Scrappy was added because ABC was going to cancel Scooby-Doo if they didn't do something. You have Scrappy to thank for Scooby coming so far.

I simply think the Scrappy haters are more vocal online than the Scrappy lovers. He probably isn't as hated as it seems.

better to be remembered, than forgotten entirely. sure it would be nice to be remembered fondly and positively, but again history is written by the winners.

No, he's annoying and he gets in the way. He has always annoyed me. I'm not even sure why he was created and why he ended up in so many of the series. Hopefully, if they create another series, he won't be in it. Wouldn't it be really sad if they decided to create a series around Scrappy? OMG...that would be scary! Even worse than Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue. And I didn't think anything could be worse than that. Ok, but why do you think Scrappy's annoying?

A lot of the people involved with Scooby didn't like Scrappy either. Well...at least the people who worked on Where Are You. Who, Joe Ruby and Ken Spears? Or other people? I have never heard of anyone else other than those two.

I don't think I would compare Scrappy to Osama Bin Laden, nor would I want them to hunt Scrappy over Osama. Interesting article. Thanks for sharing. Now do you know why Scrappy was created?

scrappy was, rightly or wrongly, not particularly liked among the fandom. tim curry, who is a big scooby buff and has been in a number of Scooby projects, was going to be in the 2002 film until he found out Scrappy was going to be in it. Mr Curry is NOT a fan of Scrappy, so he dropped out. rowan atkinson ended up with Curry's role. Where did you hear that?
