Interesting history!! I love hearing about how the characters came about and how the actors auditioned for them.

I really liked Scrappy after the first show he appeared in was canceled. He added a sense of energy to the team and in the following three movies and series he didn't get in the way much and was morely spunky. I think he played well off Daphne and it was nice seeing his and Scooby's dynamic.

Scrappy, why did CN have to go and ruin you? The live action stuff has made him a villian.

Scrappy, why did CN have to go and ruin you? The live action stuff has made him a villian. Rightly or wrongly he copped the blame for the problems with the shows ratings, and that was long before CN was involved. I do remember that I never really like him when I saw him first time round (I was born in 1968). That is a matter of personal preference and IMO how that character was, I also found the shows without Fred and Velma less appealing and missing something - again personal preference, your mileage may vary. When his character was mellowed and toned down he could be effective. But still in the wider fan-base Scrappy was the one left carrying the can.

^yet Scrappy is the reason why we still have Scooby today. If We didn't have Scrappy the Scooby-Doo show would've been the end.

scrappy was, rightly or wrongly, not particularly liked among the fandom. tim curry, who is a big scooby buff and has been in a number of Scooby projects, was going to be in the 2002 film until he found out Scrappy was going to be in it. Mr Curry is NOT a fan of Scrappy, so he dropped out. rowan atkinson ended up with Curry's role.

I'm starting to think a majority of the fandom hate on him because they think it's "cool" to hate just because other people are hating on something/someone which I find this kind of hate very immature.

I'm not sure about that. I used to dislike Scrappy due to his somewhat annoying (in my opinion) personality and taking the focus away from Shaggy and Scooby, but as I've seen more episodes with him I am starting to like him now. I'm sure some fans hate him for that reason, but in my opinion a lot of the hate Scrappy gets is due to the fact that Fred and Velma were written out to include him in the show. Most fans really enjoyed Fred and Velma in the original series and felt that Scrappy "stole their thunder" in a sense. But some people just find his more outgoing and slightly more in-your-face personality generally annoying as well, so IMO there are quite a few reasons why he's so widely hated and not necessarily because they think it's cool to hate on a character that everyone else is hating on.

I have a mix of what Doo says, I prefer when we have all the gang together and I often find him annoying and a one-trick-pony. I have seen shows where he works well with all the gang - showing that there is no need to write Fred or Velma out, but then I see him in a different show and I'm reaching for the 'nuke from orbit' button.

Scrappy was one of those 70s mascots, remember Gadzuki from Godzilla. Kid did nothing meaningful ecxept blow smoke rings. real useful against a 40 foot tall monster.
