The idea was just a zombie-guy type monster, but I can see how people might think that.

Was the "Often imitated, never duplicating" line a reference to Hanna-Barbera's attempts to turn the Scooby formula into a genre in and of itself throughout the 1970s? You're overthinking it

If it had the same level of quality as when jcb was still working on the series, then yes! I've often repeated this - but while the show had the second-worst animation style out of all of them, it did have some of the best comedy writing Scooby's ever seen! Not to be a broken record, but, while the designs could have been a BIT more aesthetically pleasing, the more cartoony look was essential to the comedy working and the writing would not have come off nearly as well if it had the classic designs. For those that gave it a chance and got used to the look, it became a non-issue and only the characters and writing mattered,

There's no movie of course. But I like the character dynamic of the show and so hopefully the future movie can take a few inspirations from it. I hoped they would, at the very least, see the value of our writing approach to BCSD, but they have apparently thrown the baby out with the bathwater, so apart from a few superficial ideas hanging over, from what I've seen and heard, the whole BCSD approach has been sent down the drain.

It will never happen, but, hells yeah, Zac and I would make a kickass BCSD movie. It's a shame WB will never collect that sweet, sweet $45 opening weekend box office gross.

Just saw this news blurb:
"Video Game Addiction will be added to the WHO's International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). This means that those diagnosed in the UK will be entitled to be treated by the NHS. The WHO defines Gaming Disorder as "Impaired control over gaming, increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests and daily activities, and continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences." The news, however, has been met with some criticism. Dr Joan Harvey, a spokeswoman for the British Psychological Society, said that the new classification may cause unnecessary concern among parents. She added that a minority of gamers would be affected. Some experts have warned that video games can be so addictive that children often get up during the night to play them. WHO says that up to 6 per cent of children may be affected. The WHO is the World Health Organisation."

While amazing, for some reason I find the above photo... disquieting.
I think all the horror and suicide threats over the design style made many people overlook the fact that BCSD is, not only horribly designed, it's is also a treasure trove of small, deep aphoristic insights into the human condition. Such as:
"Nature is just a giant bathroom that wants to eat you."
And, I believe, this universal truth from... IN SPACE: "Scrawlers never lie"
I have no doubt in the near future they will compile these and teach them in college campuses in special philosophy classes that are, at first, ten days on a row, then there aren't any for a couple months, then they start up again for a weeks all on different days and times, often at 1 AM, and then they stop having them altogether for about a year - and then it becomes an online course you can take on you computer for $5 a month... in space.

I just couldn't come up with a better Flintstones style name for him. Somehow Stoney-Doo doesn't seem to fit. I guess they could call him Howly-Doo. Raptor Doo Non-avian dinosaur Doo Tetrapod Doo "Scooby Doo, When Were You?"

Amongst the websites talking about the new Scooby series there are some saying BCSD was renewed and others not mentioning it at all. Im very confused. Jcb, know anything? I know BCSD was not renewed. My guess is it's what Doo said - they mean they will finally add the rest of season 2 sometime in the next 5-10 years. This has been the slowest and most confusing rolling out of a series I've ever seen. Strange that it wasn't a huge hit considering how lovingly they've treated it.

It'd make me ten times more excited if they went this route, those shows were my top favorite scooby shows. And yah, I'm wondering if this is another reboot, it'd make more sense if it wasn't. And is Burch Hartman involved in this? I hope he doesn't add in mean sense of humor, look at what happened with Cosmo and Timmy's dad in the later seasons. I don't need to see Fred's cold attitude back from the original series and pushed up a notch. I'm starting to like Fred. Bcsd's Fred was even worse than the first series. Very annoying and rude Darn. I was going for "Fairly annoying and rude." I guess I overshot it. My apologies.

I know people working on it and I hope it's a giant hit for them. That said, guest stars are just a gimmick if they don't figure out what to do with the Scooby gang and find the right tone for the series. We could have had guest stars in BCSD and it wouldn't have made a difference to the tone or the way we portrayed the gang. That's the key to any new SD series - what are you doing with the gang and what will the tone be.

I refer you to the Q&A where I made it clear that the entire Scooby franchise is merely the coma dream of the late Anwar Sadat. It all makes sense that way.

JCB Q&A

basically Shaggy's scenes should be split between him interacting with his and Velma's kids, or Velma or Scooby's spirit (visiting from Dog Heaven). Think how funny it would be for Scooby to forget that he's now Deceased and get scared by the thought of a ghost being present, not realizing that HE is the ghost. Scooby could interact from beyond the grave with his grandpup, who would fill the role of the main dog, giving ghostly guidance to his descendant. Only because this is a JCB Q&A thread will I comment on this, but I'm afraid WB would never go for a new SD series that stars a dead Scooby Doo returning from the grave to be afraid of himself. People in marketing tend to frown on killing off beloved franchise characters that they've been making money off of for 50 years (minus the two BCSD years, of course).

Thanks, Doo. It was great fun and I really enjoyed and sincerely appreciated your entire BCSD farewell week of posts on the Scooby Snax blog. Thanks again to everyone who participated and asked questions. For many on this forum, my answers will probably not be all that surprising, but, hopefully, there are some new insights or ideas that might illuminate and contextualize your BCSD viewing experience - or even save lives. Yes, now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure the world is a better, safer place for all mankind because of the work we've all done here this past week. I'll see you all at the Nobel Prize ceremony! xo JCB
